Bone: Formation by Autoinduction
Science, 1965Wandering histiocytes, foreign body giant cells, and inflammatory connective-tissue cells are stimulated by degradation products of dead matrix to grow in and repopulate the area of an implant of decalcified bone. Histiocytes are more numerous than any other cell form and may transfer collagenolytic activity to the substrate to cause dissolution of the

Effect of quercetin on bone formation
Journal of Orthopaedic Research, 2008AbstractQuercetin is a flavonol, also a phytoestrogen, available commonly in onions and apples. Our laboratory compared the amount of new bone produced by quercetin in a collagen matrix to that produced by bone grafts and a collagen matrix. Eighteen bone defects, 5 × 10 mm were created in the parietal bone of nine New Zealand White rabbits.

Bone Formation in Achondroplasia
1988In achondroplasia bone formation is severely stunted in the epiphyseal plates of the long bones; it is normal in the flat bones of the skull and in the periosteum, and it is excessive at the traction epiphysis (3,4).

Bone formation in organ cultures of bone marrow
Cell and Tissue Research, 1987Bone formation in organ cultures of intact marrow fragments from mouse is described. Marrow explants were cultured on the top surface of a millipore filter at a gas-liquid interface. Observations with both light- and electron microscopes demonstrated the formation of a well-organised trabecular matrix lined with osteoblast-like cells.

Bone-alkaline phosphatase as indicator of bone formation
Clinica Chimica Acta, 1991Bone-alkaline phosphatase was determined in patients at risk of osteoporosis due to treatment with oral corticosteroids, and in patients at risk of increased bone synthesis because of treatment with cyclosporin. Both a significant decrease of bone-alkaline phosphatase during corticosteroid treatment, and a significant increase of bone-alkaline ...

Bone Formation and Resorption in Bone Disorders
1966The recognition of the majority of disorders of skeletal bone depends largely upon their radiological appearance. The various pathological processes may then be further differentiated by alteration in such biochemical parameters as the plasma calcium and phosphorus levels.
