Tailoring the Properties of Functional Materials With N‐Oxides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The properties of materials bearing N‐oxide groups are often dominated by the polar N+─O− bond. It provides hydrophilicity, selective ion‐binding, electric conductivity, or antifouling properties. Many of the underlying mechanisms have only recently been discovered, and the interest in N‐oxide materials is rapidly growing.

A Smart Bio‐Battery Facilitates Diabetic Bone Defect Repair Via Inducing Macrophage Reprogramming and Synergistically Modulating Bone Remodeling Coupling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This research presents a novel implantable bio‐battery, GF‐OsG, tailored for diabetic bone repair. GF‐OsG generates microcurrents in high‐glucose conditions to enhance vascularization, shift macrophages to the M2 phenotype, and regulate immune responses.

Acute Compression and Lengthening by the Ilizarov Technique for Infected Nonunion of the Tibia with Large Bone Defects

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2006
Purpose. To assess the Ilizarov technique in treating large infected tibial defects by resection of the infected focus, its acute compression, and gradual distant site lengthening. Methods.

Concomitant bone regeneration to restore bone stock during revision distal femur replacement after large tumor resection

open access: yesJournal of Limb Lengthening & Reconstruction, 2018
Loss of bone stock is a common problem in revision arthroplasty, specifically in large distal femur replacements (DFRs) after tumor resection. It can lead to worse functional outcomes and increased risk of revision procedures.

Golden‐Ratio–Guided Aperiodic Architected Metamaterials with Simultaneously Enhanced Strength and Toughness

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Guided by the golden ratio, a class of aperiodic architected metamaterials is introduced to address the intrinsic trade‐off between strength and toughness. By unifying local geometric heterogeneity with global order, the golden‐ratio‐guided aperiodic architecture promotes spatial delocalization of damage tolerence regions, leading to more tortuous ...

Rise and development of Slavic accentual paradigms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
It appears that the complexity of Slavic historical accentology is prohibitive for most non-specialists in the field. It may therefore be useful to approach the subject from a number of different angles in order to render it more accessible to a wider ...

Effective Sliding Motions of Vibration‐Induced Emission Stoppers in Mechanically Interlocked Molecules as Artificial Muscle Tougheners and In Situ Molecular Shuttling Sensors for Self‐Healable Mechano‐Fluorescent Polyurethane Organogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The self‐healable ratiometric mechano‐fluorescent polyurethane (PU) organogel is constructed by incorporating a minor amount (ca. 1.5 wt.%) of the unconventional daisy chain rotaxane (as an artificial molecular muscle toughener) with specific sliding motions and ratiometric emission behaviors into the PU skeleton, which reveals the progressed intrinsic

The Effect of Ketorolac on Bone Healing Rate Following Osteotomy in Pediatric Patients with Deformity or Limb-length Discrepancy

open access: yesJournal of Limb Lengthening & Reconstruction
Background: The mechanism of action of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and the results of testing in some animal fracture models have created concerns with bone healing when these drugs are used for perioperative orthopedic analgesia. Given

From Proto-Indo-European to Slavic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A correct evaluation of the Slavic evidence for the reconstruction of the Indo- European proto-language requires an extensive knowledge of a considerable body of data.
