Measurement of bone quality in growing male rats using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry and bone ash content : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Applied Science in Animal Science at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]
Growing male rats have been considered and used as a model for bone growth and prevention of osteoporosis because of their high bone turnover and demand for calcium. Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) is a useful tool for identifying minimal changes

Curved mineral platelets in bone
Bone is a composite material principally made up of a mineral phase (apatite) and collagen fibrils. The mineral component of bone occurs in the form of polycrystalline platelets 2-6 nm in thickness. These platelets are packed and probably glued together in stacks of two or more, ranging up to >30 platelets.

State of the mineral component of rat bone tissue during hypokinesia and the recovery period [PDF]
Experiments were conducted on young growing rats. Hypokinesia lasting from 20 to 200 days caused retarded gain in weight and volume of the femur and delayed development of the cortical layer of the diaphysis.

Bone: An Acute Buffer of Plasma Sodium during Exhaustive Exercise?
Both hyponatremia and osteopenia separately have been well documented in endurance athletes. Although bone has been shown to act as a “sodium reservoir” to buffer severe plasma sodium derangements in animals, recent data have suggested a similar function

Glucocorticoid‐induced osteoporosis (GIOP) triggers osteocyte ferroptosis via SLC7A11 degradation. PSMD14 stabilizes SLC7A11 by counteracting glucocorticoid‐driven ubiquitination, preserving cystine uptake and glutathione synthesis. AAV‐mediated PSMD14 delivery or its agonist Pantethine rescues osteocyte survival and bone loss in GIOP mice.
