Bifunctional Probes Reveal the Rules of Intracellular Ether Lipid Transport

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
The article introduces the first bifunctional ether lipids that were used for comparative studies of ester and ether lipid transport in mammalian cells. We find differential recognition of alkyl ether and vinyl ether lipids (plasmalogens) by lipid transfer proteins indicating distinct functional roles within cells.
