Fatigue failure of cortical bone screws [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanics, 1983
An experimental study of the fatigue life of cortical bone screws under conditions which stimulated in vivo usage was performed. The two most important factors influencing fatigue life were axial screw tension (the force normal of the plate to bone) and the cyclic shearing load.

Influence of thread design on anchorage of pedicle screws in cancellous bone: an experimental and analytical analysis

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Threads of modern pedicle screws can vary greatly in design. It is difficult to assess which interplay of design features is particularly advantageous for screw anchorage.

In vivo erosion of orthopedic screws prepared from nacre (mother of pearl) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: Biodegradable biomaterials have been proposed to prepare orthopedic devices. Nacre is a natural aragonitic material made of calcium carbonate and is bioerodible.

Lengthening over nails using the double plate system ONAS-DPS

open access: yesSICOT-J, 2016
Stable insertion of large Schanz screws behind an intramedullary (IM) nail when lengthening over nails (LON) may be difficult due to the limited bone stock.

Biomechanical evaluation of peak reverse torque (PRT) in a dynamic compression plate-screw construct used in a goat tibia segmental defect model

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2019
Background Peak reverse torque (PRT) is a valid method to evaluate implants’ secondary stability in the healing bone. The secondary stability is achieved by the implant over time and it has been positively correlated with the implants’ osseointegration ...

Evaluation of osseous integration of titanium orthopedic screws with novel SLA treatment in porcine model. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
The success of many endosseous implants in orthopaedic and dental applications depends on the surface characteristics, as they affect osseous integration.

Intramedullary Nailing of Periarticular Fractures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Plate fixation has historically been the preferred surgical treatment method for periarticular fractures of the lower extremity. This trend has stemmed from difficulties with fracture reduction and concerns of inadequate fixation with intramedullary ...

In vitro and in vivo evaluations of nano-hydroxyapatite/polyamide 66/glass fibre (n-HA/PA66/GF) as a novel bioactive bone screw. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
In this study, we prepared nano-hydroxyapatite/polyamide 66/glass fibre (n-HA/PA66/GF) bioactive bone screws. The microstructure, morphology and coating of the screws were characterised, and the adhesion, proliferation and viability of MC3T3-E1 cells on ...

Application of Far Cortical Locking Technology in Periprosthetic Femoral Fracture Fixation: A Biomechanical Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
© 2016 Elsevier Inc. Background Lack of fracture movement could be a potential cause of periprosthetic femoral fracture (PFF) fixation failures. This study aimed to test whether the use of distal far cortical locking screws reduces the overall stiffness ...

Developments in Modelling Bone Screwing [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2020
Abstract INTRODUCTION: A torque-rotation model of the bone-screwing process has been proposed. Identification of model parameters using recorded data could potentially be used to determine the material properties of bone. These properties can then be used to recommend tightening torques to avoid over or under-tightening of bone screws ...
