Calcaneal Bone Tumors

Clinics in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, 2021
Bone tumors of the foot are an uncommon finding. Most tumors are found incidentally on imaging and are benign. Care must be taken although due to the aggressive nature of malignant bone tumors that can occur in the calcaneus. Malignant lesions will more commonly present with symptoms of pain and swelling.

Bone tumors

European Radiology, 2000
We present an overview of the imaging modalities in bone tumors. The imaging strategies of preoperative work-up, monitoring the effect of chemotherapy and the detection of recurrences by long-term follow-up are discussed.

Malignant Bone Tumors

The American Journal of Nursing, 1955
COMPARED to neoplasms of the soft tissues, primary tumors of bone are rare; the incidence is about 1 per 100,000 members of the population. In general, malignant disease affects the older age groups. Bone neoplasms, however, often occur in children and young adults.

Benign bone tumors

Seminars in Nuclear Medicine, 1976
There is little information in the literature concerning the role of bone scanning in benign bone neoplasms except for sporadic reports. Since the advent of 99mTc-polyphosphate, bone imaging has proven feasible and useful in locating the cause of bone pain, such as in osteoid osteomas, which are not always radiologically apparent, and in evaluating ...

Malignant Bone Tumors

The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery-American Volume, 2001
Malignant bone tumors represent a small percentage of cancers nationwide and also are much less common than malignant soft-tissue tumors. The rarity of the condition makes it imperative that orthopaedic surgeons in nononcologic practices are able to recognize the symptoms that suggest a possible bony malignancy to avoid inappropriate or delayed ...

Bone-Forming Tumors

Surgical Pathology Clinics, 2017
Bone-forming tumors are defined by neoplastic cells that differentiate along the lines of osteoblasts that deposit neoplastic bone. The morphology and biological spectrum of bone-forming tumors is broad, and their accurate diagnosis requires the careful correlation of their clinical, morphologic, and radiologic characteristics.

Primary Bone Tumors

Veterinary Clinics of North America: Small Animal Practice, 1985
The diagnosis of primary bone tumors is accomplished by history taking, physical examination, laboratory data base, radiography, and biopsy. The biologic behavior and prognosis for the various types of primary skeletal neoplasms are discussed as well as their response to various therapeutic modalities. The article also provides a partial compilation of

CARTILAGINOUS BONE TUMORS

Radiologic Clinics of North America, 1993
Cartilaginous tumors can be subdivided into several categories according to the following three criteria: (1) Is the lesion benign or malignant? (2) Is the lesion a pure or impure cartilaginous tumor? (3) Is the epicenter of the lesion intraosseous, juxtacortical, or in the soft tissues? This article focuses on the four most common benign cartilaginous

Bone morphogenetic proteins in bone tumors

Journal of Orthopaedic Science, 2004
Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), inducers of ectopic bone formation in vivo, are present in a number of osteosarcomas. BMPs are responsible for reactive bone formation, including periosteal reactions by normal osteoblasts, rather than production of tumorous osteoid by tumor cells.

Benign Bone Tumors

2014
Benign bone lesions are a broad category that demonstrates a spectrum of activities from latent to aggressive. Differentiating the various tumors is important in order to properly determine necessary intervention. This chapter focuses on the presentation, imaging, diagnostic features, and treatment of the most common benign bone tumors in order to help
