The bony callus

Injury, 1997
The bony callus was investigated by staining with the PAS and von Gieson techniques. The callus appeared to be composed of two adjoining but distinct types of bone. The birefringence observed in the periosteum and callus cartilage revealed different sized collagen fibres, each oriented perpendicularly to the long axis of the diaphysis.

Retroviral‐based gene therapy with cyclooxygenase‐2 promotes the union of bony callus tissues and accelerates fracture healing in the rat

The Journal of Gene Medicine, 2008
AbstractBackgroundAn in vivo gene therapy strategy was developed to accelerate bone fracture repair.MethodsDirect injection of a murine leukemia virus‐based vector targeted transgene expression to the proliferating periosteal cells arising shortly after fracture. Cyclooxygenase‐2 (Cox‐2) was selected because the transgene for its prostaglandin products

[Correlation between ultrasound and radiographic data for assessment of symphyseal bony callus maturation after distraction].

Revue de stomatologie et de chirurgie maxillo-faciale, 2004
To search for means of reducing ionizing radiation during treatment planning for transmandibular osteodistraction.Eleven patients (6 female, 5 male) underwent combined bimaxillary osteodistraction at a mean age of 18 Years. The following investigations were performed to determine symphyseal callus maturation: occlusal radiographs (O-RX) preoperatively,

[Experimental study of the possibilities of electrical stimulation of the development of bony callus (author's transl)].

Journal de chirurgie, 1977
The experiment was designed to study: 1) the reliability of an electrostimulator; 2) the possibility of internal fixation. The experimental animal was the dog, which was observed for 15 to 45 days. It appears possible to associate internal fixation and electrostimulation under certain conditions.

[The dynamic characteristics of regional muscle blood flow and the activity of mineralization processes in the bony callus with various methods of treating mandibular fractures].

Stomatologiia, 1990
RMBF was comparatively assessed in patients with lower jaw fractures under orthopedic therapy of the osteal suture. To this end, the 99m pertechnetate was injected bilaterally in masseter muscles. The data suggest that double jaw fixation had an adverse effect on RMBF, especially ipsilateral to the fracture.

[Effect of radix Salviae miltiorrhizae on calcium, zinc, copper content in serum, callus and bony tissue in early stage of healing process in rat closed tibial fracture].

Zhongguo Zhong xi yi jie he za zhi Zhongguo Zhongxiyi jiehe zazhi = Chinese journal of integrated traditional and Western medicine, 1992
Changes of calcium, zinc, copper contents in serum, callus and bony tissue in the early stage of the healing process of rat closed tibial fracture, also the changes of them with radix Salviae miltiorrhizae (RSM) treatment were studied. It was found that calcium, zinc contents and Zn/Cu ratio increased significantly and the rise of serum copper content ...
