Review of the anatomical basis for predicting plutonium alpha particle radiation induced osteogenic cancers

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Plutonium was discovered and first synthesized in the early 1940's. Several isotopes of plutonium are used in nuclear technologies, 238Pu for heat generation and 239Pu for energy production and weapons. Both isotopes emit alpha particles, which pose a significant radiation hazard when incorporated into the body.

An overview of the postcranial osteology of caecilians (Gymnophiona, Lissamphibia)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Caecilians comprise a relatively small (~220 species) group (Gymnophiona) of snake‐like or worm‐like, mostly tropical amphibians. Most adult caecilians are fossorial, although some species may live in aquatic or semi‐aquatic environments, either as larvae or adults.

The art and craft of anatomy

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract Understanding human anatomy is crucial for improving public health outcomes; however, effective methods of engaging the public in this domain remain underexplored. This report investigates four hands‐on, creative, and accessible methods for enhancing anatomical knowledge during public engagement events: drawing, clay modeling, needle felting ...

Defective and Clustered Choosability of Sparse Graphs

open access: yes, 2019
An (improper) graph colouring has "defect" $d$ if each monochromatic subgraph has maximum degree at most $d$, and has "clustering" $c$ if each monochromatic component has at most $c$ vertices.

Matching Book Thickness of Halin Graphs

open access: yes, 2020
The \emph{matching book embedding} of a graph $G$ is to arrange its vertices on the spine, and draw its edges into the pages so that the edges on every page do not intersect each other and the maximum degree of vertices on every page is one.

The Role of the Brain's Pragmatic Language Network in Reading Comprehension in Autistic Children

open access: yesAutism Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT One of the earliest and commonly reported symptoms of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a delay in language development. Such delay may sometimes accompany deficits which can have a long‐term impact on reading comprehension. It is frequently reported that autistic children exhibit significant difficulties in pragmatics, which is the ...

Visibility Representations of Boxes in 2.5 Dimensions

open access: yes, 2016
We initiate the study of 2.5D box visibility representations (2.5D-BR) where vertices are mapped to 3D boxes having the bottom face in the plane $z=0$ and edges are unobstructed lines of sight parallel to the $x$- or $y$-axis.

‘Where are the adults?’: Troubling child‐activism and children's political participation

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Children's political participation is a well‐established theme in childhood studies. In this article we offer an original account of child activism that takes into account the entangled and emergent aspect of children as activists. We begin with a historical and a conceptual review, noting the importance of mid‐20th century developments such ...

Packing Plane Perfect Matchings into a Point Set

open access: yes, 2015
Given a set $P$ of $n$ points in the plane, where $n$ is even, we consider the following question: How many plane perfect matchings can be packed into $P$?

Novice teachers' classroom behaviour management: Situations, responses and impact on student behaviour

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Classroom behaviour management is a persistent and often overwhelming challenge for novice teachers; they face frequent disruptive behaviours that they struggle to resolve effectively, which harms both the teaching process and classroom climate.
