Hydroprocessing of synthetic kerosene over a non‐sulphided Ni/Al2O3 catalyst: Impact of alcohols and ketones on alkene conversion

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract Synthetic jet fuel containing non‐petroleum‐derived kerosene can be produced from synthetic kerosene obtained through processes that include a hydroprocessing step. The potential use of non‐sulphided (reduced) nickel supported on alumina (Ni/Al2O3) was evaluated as an alternative to sulphided catalysts to saturate alkenes in sulphur‐free ...

How to ‘survive’ after graduating in science or engineering: Becoming an academic administrator

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract This is the eighth article in the series ‘Survival Skills for Scientists’; previous papers were published in the Journal of Materials Education. Here I describe my views, based partly on personal experience, about pursuing an alternative career path within academia: becoming an administrator (e.g., Department Chair, Dean, Vice‐President ...

High-temperature-grown buffer layer boosts electron mobility in epitaxial La-doped BaSnO$_3$/SrZrO$_3$ heterostructures

open access: yes, 2019
By inserting a SrZrO$_3$ buffer layer between the film and the substrate, we demonstrate a significant reduction of the threading dislocation density with an associated improvement of the electron mobility in La:BaSnO$_3$ films.

Breaking Down Online and Digital Reporting Practices: A Research Map From Websites to Social Media

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper adopts a mixed research methodology, integrating bibliometric and systematic literature review (SLR) tools, to systematise the academic contributions and the different bodies of knowledge generated over the last decades on online and digital reporting practices, ranging from websites to social media.

Global nonlinear optimization for the estimation of static shift and interpretation of 1-D magnetotelluric sounding data

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2011
In the presence of conducting inhomogeneities in near-surface structures, apparent resistivity data in magnetotelluric sounding can be severely distorted. This is due to electric fields generated from boundary charges on surficial inhomogeneities.

Plasmakristall‐4 Experiment: 10 Years of Operation in Orbit

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plasmakristall‐4 (PK‐4) is a microgravity complex plasma laboratory operated for 10 years on board the International Space Station. Its main purpose is the particle‐resolved investigation of generic condensed matter phenomena using strongly coupled suspensions of microparticles immersed in low‐pressure gas‐discharge plasmas.

Effect The Use of Steel Fibers (Dramix) on Reinforced Concrete Slab

open access: yesCSID Journal of Infrastructure Development, 2019
Currently concrete technology continues to grow and continue to innovate one of them using fibers. Fiber concrete has advantages over non-fiber concrete, among others: strong against the effect of shrinkage, ability to reduce crack, fire resistance, etc.

Dual‐Mode Electrophoretic Displays Enabled by Quantum Dot‐Decorated PR48:2 Pigment Particles and TiO2 for All‐Weather Visibility, Excellent Bistability, and Enhanced Readability

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This study presents a novel quantum dot electrophoretic display (QDEPD), which combines electro‐controlled reflection and optically‐triggered emission to achieve efficient multi‐modal switching within a single pixel. By incorporating multi‐component nanostructures, the system enhances functional integration and multi‐modal response capabilities.
