Ba[C(CN)3]2 and Pb[C(CN)3]2: Two Remarkably Different Heavy Main‐Group Metal Bistricyanomethanides
Metathesis reactions of either barium dichloride, BaCl2, or lead dichloride, PbCl2, respectively, with Ag[C(CN)3] in water yielded single crystals of anhydrous Ba[C(CN)3]2 and Pb[C(CN)3]2. Ba[C(CN)3]2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n (no. 14) with the lattice parameters a = 437.98(3) pm, b = 1685.36(11) pm, c = 1398.87(9) pm, β = 96.541(

ABSTRACT Tracing the early adoption of computer gang databases by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the Los Angeles Police Department in the 1980s to the deployment of computationally‐assisted surveillance during the Vietnam War, this paper uses a genealogical approach to compare surveillance technologies developed across the arc of ...

The lepton asymmetry: the last chance for a critical-density cosmology? [PDF]
We use a wide range of observations to constrain cosmological models possessing a significant asymmetry in the lepton sector, which offer perhaps the best chance of reconciling a critical-density Universe with current observations.

The disastrous boomerang effects of “citation mania” [PDF]
The recent publication of a commentary article by Dadkhah et al. (J Cell Commun Signal 11:181-185, 2017) which addressed issues raised by the citation of questionable scientific papers in current databases and the recent retraction of manuscripts dealing with the biological properties of the CCN1 protein by Lin et al.

Quantum boomerang effect in systems without time-reversal symmetry
In an Anderson localized system, a quantum particle with a nonzero initial velocity returns, on average, to its origin. This recently discovered behavior is known as the quantum boomerang effect. Time reversal invariance was initially thought to be a necessary condition for the existence of this phenomenon.

Norm From The Top: A Social Norm Nudge To Promote Low-Practiced Behaviors Without Boomerang Effect [PDF]
Social norms are an essential determinant of conformity in decision-making, a powerful nudge for helping people adopt prosocial behavior. Informing people that most of their peers behave virtuously encourages them to improve their own behavior ...

Observation of force-detected nuclear magnetic resonance in a homogeneous field [PDF]
We report the experimental realization of BOOMERANG (better observation of magnetization, enhanced resolution, and no gradient), a sensitive and general method of magnetic resonance.

Farmers' Beliefs About Climate Action: Evidence From an Information Experiment
ABSTRACT Farmers' adoption of climate change mitigation practices is crucial for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from food production. One major source of these emissions is chemical fertilizer application. Introducing clover into grassland can mitigate emissions by reducing the need for chemical fertilizers.

A Measurement of the Angular Power Spectrum of the CMB Temperature Anisotropy from the 2003 Flight of Boomerang [PDF]
We report on observations of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) obtained during the January 2003 flight of Boomerang . These results are derived from 195 hours of observation with four 145 GHz Polarization Sensitive Bolometer (PSB) pairs, identical in
