Effects of Mechanical Properties of Elastomeric Electrolytes for Stable Operation of Lithium Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 16, Issue 5, 4 February 2026.
The mechanical properties of fluorinated elastomeric electrolytes are independently tuned by adjusting crosslinking density while maintaining high ionic conductivity. Their balanced toughness, adhesion energy, and elastic recovery enable superior cycling performance of lithium metal batteries at both ambient and low temperatures.

Mitigating Thermal Runaway in Lithium Metal Batteries With Flame‐Retardant Magnesium Hydroxide Nanocomposite Gel Electrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 16, Issue 5, 4 February 2026.
Lithium‐ion batteries are ubiquitous but pose significant safety risks especially with high‐energy‐density electrode materials. This study reports a nanocomposite gel electrolyte (NGE) with a flame‐retardant magnesium hydroxide (MH) matrix, which offers robust mechanical properties, high ionic conductivity, and enhanced thermal safety.

Ring‐opening metathesis polymerization‐Derived Organoborane Polymers as Strong Lewis Acids and Luminescent Materials

open access: yesChemistryEurope, Volume 4, Issue 2, February 2026.
Ring‐opening metathesis polymerization offers access to borane polymers with tunable Lewis acidity, environmental stability, and luminescence. The Lewis acid strength approaches that of B(C6F5)3 when R = Cl and Ar = C6F5, high stability is ensured with chlorophenyl or naphthyl pendent groups (Ar = ClPh, Np), and strong emission is achieved with a ...

Improving Electrolyte Sustainability for Sodium‐Ion Capacitors by Combining a Bio‐Based Solvent With a Low‐Fluorine Salt

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 3, February 2026.
This work investigates a novel, sustainable electrolyte for application in sodium‐ion capacitors by combining a low‐fluorine salt, sodium difluoro(oxalato)borate (NaDFOB), with a bio‐based solvent, γ‐Valerolactone (GVL). Furthermore, the in situ sacrificial salt (sodium squarate, Na2C4O4) oxidation technique has been studied as a presodiation ...
