Bordetella bronchiseptica pneumonia in a koala

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1993
A 3-year-old male koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) was evaluated because of severe acute respiratory distress. Despite medical treatment, the koala died. Gross and histologic lesions consistent with acute bacterial pneumonia were identified at necropsy and Bordetella bronchiseptica was isolated from pulmonary tissue.

Bordetella bronchiseptica infection in the cat

Journal of Small Animal Practice, 1999
Feline Bordetella bronchiseptica infection had received little consideration until recent years when it has been increasingly documented in association with respiratory disease. This article reviews current knowledge on the organism; its epidemiology, pathogenesis, and clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic features.

Invasion of HeLa cells by Bordetella bronchiseptica

Microbial Pathogenesis, 1993
Invasion, defined as adhesion to, followed by entrance into HeLa cells by Bordetella bronchiseptica was determined by (i) specific staining of intracellular bacteria and (ii) counting of viable intracellular bacteria after killing extracellular bacteria with colistin. It was demonstrated for the first time that B.

Bordetella bronchiseptica infections in cats

Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, 1996
Eleven cats from 10 different households or catteries were diagnosed with Bordetella bronchiseptica (B. bronchiseptica) infections. Seven cases proved fatal, in which B. bronchiseptica pneumonia was a primary or significant cause of death. The majority of cases (seven of 11) were in kittens less than eight weeks old. A universal complaint was coughing.

Bordetella bronchiseptica Bacteremia in a Patient with AIDS

Southern Medical Journal, 2010
Bordetella bronchiseptica bacteremia is often associated with various infection in animals. The majority of B bronchiseptica infections reported in humans are cases of pneumonia. Very few cases have been reported in patients with a history of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). The patient described herein, who had a history of AIDS, was likely

Characterization of haemagglutinin from Bordetella bronchiseptica

Vaccine, 1991
In comparison with haemagglutinin (HA)-active strains of Bordetella bronchiseptica, the HA-deficient strains lacked a 150 kDa protein band on SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Adsorption of partially purified HA with bovine erythrocytes showed the loss of the 150 kDa band in the supernatant.

POSTSURGICAL MENINGITIS CAUSED BY BORDETELLA BRONCHISEPTICA

The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 2003
Bordetella bronchiseptica is a common commensal and respiratory pathogen in many wild and domestic animals, but it is a rare cause of human infection. There have been reports of human respiratory tract infection and bacteremia, occurring predominantly in immunocompromised patients and the elderly. We report a case of B.

Virulence and lienotoxicity of Bordetella bronchiseptica in mice

Veterinary Microbiology, 1990
Whole-cell suspensions (WCSs) and cell-free sonicated extracts (SEs) of seven Bordetella bronchiseptica strains were studied for lethality and lienotoxicity in mice. Lethality was assessed after intravenous and intracerebral inoculation, and lienotoxicity by splenic atrophy after intravenous inoculation. The strains represented phase I isolates with or

Purification and characterization of Bordetella bronchiseptica dermonecrotic toxin

Microbial Pathogenesis, 1989
Dermonecrotic toxin produced by Bordetella bronchiseptica was purified by chromatography on DEAE Toyopearl 650M and on Bio-Gel HTP, gel filtration on Sephadex G-200, and subsequent chromatography on Bio-Gel HTP and on SP Toyopearl 650M. The purified toxin was homogeneous by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and high performance ...

Bordetella bronchiseptica Pleural Infection in a Patient with AIDS

Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2002
Bordetella bronchiseptica is an important veterinary pathogen but a rare cause of opportunistic respiratory tract infection in humans. We describe a case of pleural effusion caused by B. bronchiseptica in a patient with AIDS who was coinfected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. To the best of our knowledge this is the first case in the medical literature
