Guiding Curiosity: How Learning Progress Shapes Young Children's Exploration of New Toys

open access: yesDevelopmental Science, Volume 29, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Previous research has shown that children are drawn to environments that offer learning progress. However, the computational implementation of learning progress varied across studies, potentially overshadowing that there might be two distinct processes at work.

Uncovering Frailty in Burning Mouth Syndrome: Insights From a SUNFRAIL+ Based Multidimensional Assessment

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 53, Issue 7, Page 1347-1362, July 2026.
Burning Mouth Syndrome patients showed a markedly higher frailty alert rate than controls using the SUNFRAIL+ multidimensional screening tool, with increased polypharmacy, cognitive decline, reduced mobility and depressive symptoms. These findings suggest that BMS is associated with a broader frailty profile requiring integrated physical, cognitive and

Foreign Exchange Regimes in (Normal Times and) Times of War: Insights From Ukraine

open access: yesScottish Journal of Political Economy, Volume 73, Issue 3, July 2026.
ABSTRACT On February 24, 2022, as Russia invaded, the National Bank of Ukraine switched from a flexible to a fixed‐exchange rate regime. Was this optimal? We develop a tractable but carefully calibrated open‐economy model of Ukraine with nominal rigidities and frictions in international financial markets.

Upscaling the Strength Domain of Heterogeneous Cohesive‐Frictional Materials via a General FFT‐Based Limit Analysis Approach

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 127, Issue 12, 30 June 2026.
ABSTRACT Limit analysis and yield design provide a well‐defined mathematical framework for upscaling the strength properties of heterogeneous materials. These techniques can be incorporated into an FFT‐based computational micromechanics framework to evaluate the strength of heterogeneous materials, based on images of their microstructure.

Chemical Syntheses of 3′ and 5′ Phosphorylated Oligonucleotides: An Overview

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 29, Issue 21, 4 June 2026.
This review provides an overview of the various chemical methods employed in the synthesis of oligonucleotides bearing a phosphate group at their 3′ or 5′ end. Notably, it presents modified phosphoramidites and supports developed for this purpose. Oligonucleotides (ON) with a phosphate monoester group at their 3′ or 5′ end have applications in many ...

Exploring Diverse Glycone Preferences of Aspergillus rutinosidases

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, Volume 368, Issue 11, 3 June 2026.
Rutinosidases from Aspergillus niger (AnRut) and A. oryzae (AoRut) catalyze hydrolysis and transglycosylation with non‐natural glycosides as donors, enabling glycosylation of alcoholic and phenolic acceptors. AnRut exhibits broad glycone promiscuity, while AoRut has a narrower substrate scope.
