Effect of pack-boriding on the tribological behavior of Hardox 450 and HiTuf Steels

open access: yesReviews on Advanced Materials Science, 2020
In this study, Hardox 450 and HiTuf steels were boronized by pack-boriding method at 800, 900, and 1000∘C for 5 h. The phases, microstructure, hardness, and wear behavior of boride layers formed on the surface of samples were investigated using XRD, SEM,

Development of Innovative Method of Steel Surface Hardening by a Combined Chemical-thermal Treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The aim of the article is a hardening of the surface steel layers due to the combination treatment. Samples of steel 38Cr2MoAl were hardened by complex chemical and thermal treatment such as carburizing and subsequent boriding.

Thermal conductivity of PrRh4.8B2, a layered boride compound [PDF]

open access: yesAPL Materials, 2017
Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), specific heat, and thermal conductivity measurements were carried out for PrRh4.8B2 single crystals. PrRh4.8B2 takes an interesting layered crystal structure, where PrRh3B2 blocks are separated by metal Rh honeycomb layers. The existence of the Rh layers enhances the ferrimagnetic transition temperature.

Sol–Gel Derived Polymer Precursors for Stereolithography of ZrC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
ZrC is a critical material target for extreme temperature conditions. This report describes a protocol for preparing ZrC ceramics via stereolithography and examines the impact of the polymer matrix on carbothermal reduction and mechanical stability of 3D printed ZrC.

Microstructural alteration and oxidation behavior of boronized stainless steel AISI 440C after heat treatments [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2019
The martensitic stainless steel AISI 440C was boronized at a temperature of 950 °C for about 4 hr. Heat treatments at a temperature of 850 °C for about 2-8 hr were performed to eliminate the FeB phase of the boride layer.

Selective Electrolysis of Water Under Artificial Seawater Conditions Using Transition Metal Borate Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
The borate‐based cobalt‐iron catalyst promotes selective oxidation of water rather than chlorine evolution reaction during electrolysis of seawater. When integrated into a zero‐gap electrolyzer prototype, this catalyst supports robust splitting of artificial seawater into oxygen and hydrogen on an extended timescale.

Large diameter multiwall nanotubes of MgB2: structural aspects and stability of superconducting nanotubular magnesium boride

open access: yes, 2015
Based on a theoretical study, we demonstrated that magnesium boride nanotubes can reach the same stability as bulk MgB2 structure. However, most stable nanotubular forms are not structurally derived from mixed triangular-hexagonal structural motifs of a ...
