“The Boring in Sussex” [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1873
ON the 9th inst. I was fortunate enough to find what I believe to be the first fossil from the Sub-Wealden boring at Netherfield, three or four shells of the genus Cyclas, in dark blue shale from a depth of 100ft. There was also a small piece of what Dr. Bowerbank thinks is a Paludina.

Displacement-Based Estimation of Quasi-Three-Dimensional Landslide Slip Surfaces Using UAV LiDAR Data

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Accurate delineation of buried slip surfaces remains a major uncertainty in landslide hazard assessment, especially where subsurface data are limited. This study evaluates a displacement-based approach to estimate quasi-three-dimensional (quasi-3D) slip ...

Simulation models of vibrations at holes boring factored in the technological system’s variable rigidity

open access: yesTrudy Odesskogo Politehničeskogo Universiteta, 2014
At elongated holes boring several imperfections can occur, namely, the surface waviness and shape inaccuracies in the axial section. This research purpose is to establish the regularities of such imperfections formation depending on the technological ...

The Boring Billion, a slingshot for Complex Life on Earth

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
The period 1800 to 800 Ma (“Boring Billion”) is believed to mark a delay in the evolution of complex life, primarily due to low levels of oxygen in the atmosphere.

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.
