A Dedicated Design Strategy for Active Boring Bar

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Unstable vibrations (i.e., chatter) onset is one of the main limits to productivity in deep boring bar processes. Active damping systems allow to increase machining stability in different configurations (i.e., tool setup), without requiring cutting ...

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Helical Feed Milling with MQL for Boring of Aluminum Alloy

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2008
MQL is applied to the helical feed milling hole-making process of aluminum alloy. It is difficult to drill on aluminum alloy without cutting fluid because the adhesion to the tool leads to a chip jam, the tool breakage or low accuracy.

Analysis of the Composite Boring Bar Dynamic Characteristics Considering Shear Deformation and Rotational Inertia

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
A boring bar is a tool used to install cutters and transfer power during boring. Because the boring bar in a narrow workspace is usually slender, chatter often occurs in the boring process.

Plasma density limits for hole boring by intense laser pulses

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
High-power lasers in the relativistic intensity regime with multi-picosecond pulse durations are available in many laboratories around the world. Laser pulses at these intensities reach giga-bar level radiation pressures, which can push the plasma ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Interpretation of Undrained Self-Boring Pressuremeter Test Results Incorporating Unloading

open access: yes, 1992
: An interpretation method has been developed to incorporate nonlinear soil behavior to interpret undrained pressure-meter test results. The method makes use of both the loading and unloading portions of the pressuremeter test.

Torrent rainfall-induced large-scale karst limestone slope collapse at Khanh waterfall, Hoa Binh Province, Vietnam

open access: yesGeoenvironmental Disasters, 2022
In recent years, many landslides have occurred in Vietnam, particularly in the Northern mountainous region during the rainy season from May to October. On the morning of October 12, 2017, the Khanh waterfall landslide in Khanh Village, Hoa Binh Province,
