The long lost textbook by Soviet scholar Boris Hessen (1893-1936) provides a backdrop for his attempt to develop a historical materialist account of physics as a model for the history of early modern science. It shows that this attempt, signaling the rise of the social history of science, took the complexities of scientific development seriously, in ...

Boris Hessen's Philosophy of the Scientific Revolution
Boris Hessen is one of the most quoted historians of the Scientific Revolution but also one of the most controversial. His manifesto of Marxist historiography, “The Social and Economic Roots of Newton’s Mechanics” is still regarded — and often dismissed — as the most representative piece of ‘externalist’ history of science.

A novel framework for determining the causes of mortality of large GPS‐tagged birds, the LIFE EUROKITE Assessment Protocol (LEAP), was developed. LEAP integrates GPS tracking data, site investigation, and necropsy to derive mortality causes and a corresponding certainty score. Two case studies demonstrated improvements in mortality assessments compared

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107. [PDF]
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.
