Metallocomplex-based borohydride electro-oxidation catalysts

Catalysis Today, 2011
Abstract We have found that certain kind of complexes on carbon black catalyze borohydride electro-oxidation. All of the Rh porphyrins tested in this study exhibited high activity regardless of the structure of the porphyrin ligands. While other metalloporphyrins also catalyzed borohydride electro-oxidation, the activities were much lower than those ...

Chemical Labeling of Carbohydrates by Oxidation and Sodium Borohydride Reduction

Current Protocols in Molecular Biology, 1994
AbstractThis unit describes a collection of methods for chemical labeling of carbohydrates (free oligosaccharides or oligosaccharides conjugated to proteins, peptides, or lipids) by oxidation followed by reduction or by direct reduction. Oligosaccharides can be labeled with either radioisotopes or nonradioactive fluorescent molecules.

Electrochemical Oxidation of Borohydride for Direct Fuel Cells

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2015
The direct borohydride fuel cell (DBFC) is gaining more and more interest in recent years because of high energy density and the easy handling of liquid fuels. The oxidation of the borohydride anions at the anode delivers up to eight electrons per molecule at a theoretical potential of -1.24 V vs.

Electrochemical oxidation of borohydride at nano-gold-based electrodes: Application in direct borohydride fuel cells

Journal of Power Sources, 2008
Abstract Nano-particulate gold-based materials along with commercial gold supported over carbon were investigated as possible alternative electrocatalysts for the oxidation of borohydride in alkaline media. Cyclic voltammetry experiments conducted on these materials show very high activity for the nano-particulate materials compared to the commercial

The effect of surfactants on the kinetics of borohydride oxidation and hydrolysis in the DBFC

Electrochimica Acta, 2014
Abstract The kinetics of borohydride oxidation at gold in the presence of surfactants was analysed by cyclic voltammetry at a static disc and linear sweep voltammetry at a rotating disc electrode. The electrolytes contained 0.02 mol dm −3 NaBH 4 in 3 mol dm −3 NaOH, at 23 °C, in the absence and in the presence of surfactants including alkoxylated ...

In situ infrared (FTIR) study of the mechanism of the borohydride oxidation reaction

Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2010
Early reports stated that Au was a catalyst of choice for the BOR because it would yield a near complete faradaic efficiency. However, it has recently been suggested that gold could yield to some extent the heterogeneous hydrolysis of BH, therefore lowering the electron count per BH, especially at low potential.
