Importance of Common Wall Lizards in the Transmission Dynamics of Tick-Borne Pathogens in the Northern Apennine Mountains, Italy [PDF]
During the investigations on ticks and tick-borne pathogens (TBP) range expansion in the Northern Apennines, we captured 107 Podarcis muralis lizards. Sixty-eight animals were infested by immature Ixodes ricinus, Haemaphysalis sulcata and H.

Wild birds as host of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato in northwestern Argentina
Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (s. l.) spirochetes are associated with a wide range of vectors and hosts. Birds are important hosts in the ecology of some hard ticks (Ixodidae) in northwestern Argentina, where B. burgdorferi s.l. have been detected in Ixodes pararicinus.

The analysis of different multi-host systems suggests that even hosts that are not capable of transmitting Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (s.l.) to the tick vector, Ixodes ricinus, or that are secondary reservoirs for these agents contribute to the ...

BackgroundBorrelia burgdorferi (sensu lato) and rickettsiae of the spotted fever group are zoonotic tick-borne pathogens. While small mammals are confirmed reservoirs for certain Borrelia spp., little is known about the reservoirs for tick-borne ...

Ecology of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato
Components of the enzootic cycle of Borrelia burgdorferi s.l. in Europe. The various developmental stages of the ticks feed on various classes of vertebrate hosts. The competence of the vertebrates for the B. burgdorferi s.l. genospecies determines what bacteria will be taken up by the ticks feeding on them.
