Lymphadenosis benigna cutis resulting from Borrelia infection (Borrelia lymphocytoma)

Swelling and erythema of the right pinna developed in a 7-year-old girl. Six months later a biopsy specimen showed a dense, diffuse lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate involving most of the dermis except for a thin Grenz zone. The appearance was consistent with lymphocytoma cutis.

[Hypertension in Borrelia infections].

A patient with severe hypertension caused by Borrelia burgdorferi-encephalitis is reported. The patient recovered from all symptoms following treatment with high dose cefuroxime. The diagnosis was not established until lumbar puncture was performed.

Tick-Borne Borrelia Infection in Sweden

Spirochetes were cultivated from 17% of 114 Ixodes ricinus ticks in the Stockholm area. Three strains of these spirochetes were selected for studies by electron microscopy. These three strains had definite morphological similarities to spirochetes of the genus Borrelia, as judged by the number of flagella, absence of cytoplasmic tubules, and dimensions.
