Research in Veterinary Science, 1990Semen quality, testis size and efficiency of sperm production in Bali cattle (Bos sondaicus) and hybrids with Bos indicus and Bos taurus were determined. Mean (+/- SEM) daily sperm production per gram of testis parenchyma (DSPG) in six purebred Bali bulls was 12.2 +/- 0.7 x 10(6).

Each dam was examined twice annually during a specific stage in the life cycle (3.5 to 9.5 years old). Overall, 28.3% of dams in the herd developed at least 1 ocular squamous cell tumor.

Breed-associated resistance to tick infestation in Bos indicus and their crosses with Bos taurus
Veterinary Parasitology, 1998The relative resistance to tick infestation of zebu (Bos indicus) in comparison to crossbred (B. indicus x B. taurus) cattle was investigated. B. indicus breeds, all belonging to Tanganyika shorthorn zebu were Meru, Mbullu and Iringa red. Crossbreds were Meru x Friesian and Iringa red x Friesian.

Developments in biologicals, 2008Tick resistant cattle could provide a potentially sustainable and environmentally sound method of controlling cattle ticks. Advances in genomics and the availability of the bovine genome sequence open up opportunities to identify useful and selectable genes controlling cattle tick resistance.
