Rhein, an active metabolite of diacerein, down-regulates the gene-expression and production of pro-matrix metalloproteinases and up-regulates the tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 production. The therapeutic effects of diacerein on osteoarthritis are, at least in part, due to the chondroprotective effect of rhein.

Determination of 11-keto-boswellic acid in human plasma

A sensitive, specific, accurate, fast and reproducible GC/MS-method for the quantitative determination of 11-keto-boswellic acid in human plasma using 18alpha-glycyrrhetinic acid as the internal standard was developed and validated. 11-Keto-boswellic acid and the internal standard were separated from acidified plasma by liquid/liquid extraction.

Synthesis and cytotoxic activity of boswellic acid analogues

Abstract Fifteen stereoisomers of boswellic acid analogues bearing 2-OH, 24-OH, 3-keto or 2-OH, 3-OH, 24-OH groups were synthesised and their structures were confirmed using 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, 2D NMR and HRMS.
