Synthesis of δ-boswellic acid

Phytochemistry, 1969
Abstract The synthesis of δ-boswellic acid from α- or β-boswellic acid is reported. It is not identical with γ-boswellic acid.

Synthesis and pharmacokinetic profile of rhein- boswellic acid conjugate

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2012
Rhein, an active metabolite of diacerein, down-regulates the gene-expression and production of pro-matrix metalloproteinases and up-regulates the tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 production. The therapeutic effects of diacerein on osteoarthritis are, at least in part, due to the chondroprotective effect of rhein.

Metabolism of Boswellic Acids in Vitro and in Vivo

Drug Metabolism and Disposition, 2008
Boswellia serrata resin dry extract is among the few herbal remedies designated with an orphan drug status for the treatment of peritumoral brain edema. In addition, boswellic acids (BAs), the main active ingredients of B. serrata extracts, have potent anti-inflammatory properties, and may represent promising agents for the treatment of inflammatory ...

Acetyl-α-boswellic acid and Acetyl-β-boswellic acid protects against caerulein-induced pancreatitis via down-regulating MAPKs in mice

International Immunopharmacology, 2020
This study is to investigate the protective effect of Acetyl-α-boswellic acid and Acetyl-β-boswellic mixture(α/β-ABA), which is the active ingredients isolated from Frankincense, on actue pancreatitis and its mechanism. Our experimental results showed that 2 μM α/β-ABA reduced production of NO, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-10 and IL-1β in RAW264.7 cells that were ...

Crystallographic Analysis of Acetyl β -boswellic acid

Crystal Research and Technology, 2001
The crystal structure of the title compound (3α-acetoxy-urs-12-en-24-oic acid, C 32 H 50 O 4 ) has been determined by X-ray crystallographic techniques. The compound crystallizes into orthorhombic space group P2 1 2 1 2 with unit cell parameters: a = 12.773(2), b=16.381(4), c=27.929(7)A. The structure has been solved by direct methods and refined to R =

Determination of 11-keto-boswellic acid in human plasma

Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis, 2002
A sensitive, specific, accurate, fast and reproducible GC/MS-method for the quantitative determination of 11-keto-boswellic acid in human plasma using 18alpha-glycyrrhetinic acid as the internal standard was developed and validated. 11-Keto-boswellic acid and the internal standard were separated from acidified plasma by liquid/liquid extraction.

The stereochemistry of the boswellic acids

Phytochemistry, 1968
Abstract The configuration of the substituents at C(3), C(4), C(5), C(8), C(10), C(13) and C(17) in α- and β-boswellic acids have been shown to be identical by an ursane-oleanane interconversion. Synthetic and dehydration studies of the C(3) epimeric alcohols have confirmed the axial configuration of the hydroxyl group in the boswellic acids and ...

Boswellic Acids Inhibit Glioma Growth: A New Treatment Option?

Journal of Neuro-Oncology, 2000
Conventional malignant glioma therapy (surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy) does not yield satisfying results. The prognosis of the glioma patient depends more on the histological grading of the tumor and patient's age than on the therapy.

Synthesis and cytotoxic activity of boswellic acid analogues

Phytochemistry Letters, 2016
Abstract Fifteen stereoisomers of boswellic acid analogues bearing 2-OH, 24-OH, 3-keto or 2-OH, 3-OH, 24-OH groups were synthesised and their structures were confirmed using 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, 2D NMR and HRMS. The cytotoxic activities of these compounds toward three human tumor cell lines, K562, PC3 and A549, were evaluated.

Immunomodulatory Activity of Boswellic Acids (Pentacyclic Triterpene Acids) fromBoswellia serrata

Phytotherapy Research, 1996
Boswellic acids, a mixture of pentacyclic triterpene acids (BA) obtained from Boswellia serrata Roxb., have been investigated for their effect on cell mediated and humoral components of the immune system and the immunotoxicological potential.
