The marine macroalgae of Cabo Verde archipelago : an updated checklist [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
An updated list of the names of the marine macroalgae of Cabo Verde, an archipelago of ten volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean, is presented based on existing reports, and includes the addition of 36 species. The checklist comprises a total of

The Compleat Naturalist: A Life of Linnaeus. Wilfrid Blunt. New York: The Viking Press, 1971. 256 pp. $14.95. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Excerpt: Not all historians agree thoroughly with Julius von Sachs\u27 suggestion in the Geschichte der Botanik (1875) that the work of Carl von Linnd marked the conclusion of an old epoch rather than the beginning of a new one, but it is true that most ...

On the importance of sequence alignment inspections in plastid phylogenomics – an example from revisiting the relationships of the water‐lilies

open access: yesCladistics, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 469-495, October 2024.
Abstract The water‐lily clade represents the second earliest‐diverging branch of angiosperms. Most of its species belong to Nymphaeaceae, of which the “core Nymphaeaceae”—comprising the genera Euryale, Nymphaea and Victoria—is the most diverse clade.

Additions to the bryophyte floras of Réunion and Mauritius (East African Islands) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Interesting records of bryophytes from the East African Islands Réunion and Mauritius are reported. Anomodon tristis (Ces.) Sull. & Lesq. is reported with certainty for Africa. First records for the East African Islands of Calliergonella cuspidata (Hedw.)

Effective concentration of herbal anaesthetics Origanum vulgare L. oil and its effects on stress parameters in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 10, Issue 4, July 2024.
The best concentration of oregano oil as an anaesthetic agent was 60 mg L−1 for tilapia. It is compared with clove oil and its effect on stress of fish by plasma glucose and cortisol levels with different time point applications showed no significant differences.

Integrating multi‐omics data reveals energy and stress signaling activated by abscisic acid in Arabidopsis

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 119, Issue 2, Page 1112-1133, July 2024.
SUMMARY Phytohormones are essential signaling molecules regulating various processes in growth, development, and stress responses. Genetic and molecular studies, especially using Arabidopsis thaliana (Arabidopsis), have discovered many important players involved in hormone perception, signal transduction, transport, and metabolism.

Bioinformatic Workflows for Generating Complete Plastid Genome Sequences—An Example from Cabomba (Cabombaceae) in the Context of the Phylogenomic Analysis of the Water-Lily Clade

open access: yesLife, 2018
The sequencing and comparison of plastid genomes are becoming a standard method in plant genomics, and many researchers are using this approach to infer plant phylogenetic relationships.

Mycosphaerella podagrariae - a necrotrophic phytopathogen forming a special cellular interaction with its host Aegopodium podagraria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present a new kind of cellular interaction found between Mycosphaerella podagrariae and Aegopodium podagraria, which is remarkably different to the interaction type of the obligate biotrophic fungus Cymadothea trifolii, another member of the ...

Conquering new grounds: plant organellar C‐to‐U RNA editing factors can be functional in the plant cytosol

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 119, Issue 2, Page 895-915, July 2024.
Significance Statement We show that PPR‐type organelle RNA editing factors can principally also function in the plant cytosol but that their lack of targeting specificity likely restricts their occurrence in nature to chloroplasts and mitochondria. Our new approach of induced cytosolic expression will allow to much better characterize the RNA‐targeting
