An Interactive Interpreter for Two Dimensional Lucid

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
We present an initial draft of the “Luminous” interactive interpreter for a new dialect of the functional dataflow language Lucid. Luminous is not the first implementation of Lucid but it is novel in several ways.

Differentiable Multi-Granularity Human Representation Learning for Instance-Aware Human Semantic Parsing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
To address the challenging task of instance-aware human part parsing, a new bottom-up regime is proposed to learn category-level human semantic segmentation as well as multi-person pose estimation in a joint and end-to-end manner.

Wetland occupancy by duck broods in cropland‐dominated landscapes of the United States Prairie Pothole Region

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 87, Issue 2, February 2023., 2023
We evaluated how wetland occupancy by duck broods varied across crop‐dominated landscapes of the Prairie Pothole Region (PPR) in the United States to inform conservation strategies in the face of widespread land use alterations and climate change. We found about 4 in 10 small wetlands in crop‐dominated landscapes within the PPR were used by duck broods

The Charged Higgs from the Bottom-Up: Probing Flavor at the LHC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
We systematically study model-independent constraints on the three generic charged Higgs couplings to $b$-quarks and up-type quarks. While existing LHC searches have focussed on the $tb$ coupling, we emphasize that the LHC plays a crucial role in probing also $ub$ and $cb$ couplings, since constraints from flavor physics are weak.

A multirobot system for autonomous deployment and recovery of a blade crawler for operations and maintenance of offshore wind turbine blades

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, Volume 40, Issue 1, Page 73-93, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Offshore wind farms will play a vital role in the global ambition of net zero energy generation. Future offshore wind farms will be larger and further from the coast, meaning that traditional human‐based operations and maintenance approaches will become infeasible due to safety, cost, and skills shortages.

Simple chain grammars [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
A subclass of the LR(0)-grammars, the class of simple chain grammars is introduced. Although there exist simple chain grammars which are not LL(k) for any k, this new class of grammars is very close related to the class of LL(1) and simple LL(1) grammars.

Science class as clinic: Why histories of segregated instruction matter for health equity reforms today

open access: yesScience Education, Volume 107, Issue 1, Page 42-70, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Research has recommended centering health disparities to make science instruction relevant to students from minoritized racial and ethnic groups. While promoted as a recent innovation, the repurposing of science instruction to improve the health of demographic groups has a longer history traceable to segregated and colonial schooling.

A fuzzing‐based test‐creation approach for evaluating digital TV receivers via transport streams

open access: yesSoftware Testing, Verification and Reliability, Volume 33, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Although the present work was focused on DTV networks, there is a myriad of different broadcasting systems that can benefit from it as long as they rely on configuration data sent in their protocol structures. Abstract Digital TV (DTV) receivers are usually submitted to testing systems for conformity and robustness assessment, and their approval ...

Bottom-Up Filtering [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 13th conference on Computational linguistics -, 1990
In this paper, we propose an optimized strategy, called Bottom-Up Filtering, for parsing GPSGs. This strategy is based on a particular, high level, interpretation of GPSGs. It permits a significant reduction of the non-determinism inherent to the rule selection process.

Vowels and consonants in the brain: Evidence from the magnetoencephalographic studies on the N1m in normal-hearing listeners

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2016
Speech sound perception is one of the most fascinating tasks performed by the human brain. It involves a mapping from continuous acoustic waveforms onto the discrete phonological units computed to store words in the mental lexicon.
