Impact of Boundary Conditions on Entrainment and Transport in Gravity Currents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Gravity currents have been studied numerically and experimentally both in the laboratory and in the ocean. The question of appropriate boundary conditions is still challenging for most complex flows.

Effective therapeutic targeting of CTNNB1‐mutant hepatoblastoma with WNTinib

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
WNTinib, a Wnt/CTNNB1 inhibitor, was tested in hepatoblastoma (HB) experimental models. It delayed tumor growth and improved survival in CTNNB1‐mutant in vivo models. In organoids, WNTinib outperformed cisplatin and showed enhanced efficacy in combination therapy, supporting its potential as a targeted treatment for CTNNB1‐mutated HB.

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

Characterization and mechanism of resuspension events induced by internal tides at the toe of Shenhu canyon

open access: yesApplied Ocean Research
Understanding sediment resuspension in deep-sea (primarily deeper than 1000 m) environments is critical for environmental impact assessments and engineering planning.

RRS James Clark Ross, December 18, 2002–January 4, 2003. ACCLAIM: Sea level measurements in the Drake Passage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
ACCLAIM Bottom Pressure Recorders have been used for making measurements of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) since 1988, initially in the Scotia Sea and then later the Drake Passage between the Falkland Islands and the Antarctic peninsula. Some of

Lateral and Bottom Forces on Longshore Currents

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1976, 1976
A two-component electromagnetic flowmeter has been used on a natural beach of slope 0.01 to measure mean longshore currents and the horizontal fluctuating velocities in the frequency range 0-1 Hz. The measurements extend up to 120 m offshore and span about one third of a wide surf-zone.

Near-Bottom Velocities in Waves with a Current

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1978, 1978
Bakker (1974) developed a mathematical model concerning the sand concentration and velocity distribution in an oscillatory turbulent flow, with or without resultant current. The flow is assumed to be uniform in horizontal direction. The present paper reports on an experimental verification of this theory.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Unraveling the Enrichment Mechanisms of Rare Earth Elements in Deep‐Sea Sediments: An Environmental Magnetic Perspective

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Deep‐sea rare earth elements and yttrium (REY)‐rich sediments have attracted considerable attention since their discovery in 2011. However, the environmental factors controlling REY enrichment remain poorly understood, largely because paleoceanographic ...

Multilayer Edge Molecular Devices Based on Plasma Oxidation of Photolithographically Defined Bottom Metal Electrode

open access: yes, 2011
A multilayer edge molecular electronics device (MEMED), which utilize the two metal electrodes of a metal-insulator-metal tunnel junction as the two electrical leads to molecular channels, can overcome the long standing fabrication challenges for ...
