Characteristics of Dredged Bottom Sediments
Journal of the Waterway, Port, Coastal and Ocean Division, 1977Certain physical and bulk chemical characteristics of bottom sediments that are candidates for dredging are summarized for approx. 50 locations throughout the United States. According to empirical criteria that were used for the past several years, most of these sediments would be termed polluted. Based on the results of a bivariate regression analysis

Keratinophilic fungi in bottom sediments of surface waters
Medical Mycology, 1990Samples of bottom sediments from several artificial lakes, ponds, rivers and sewage in the Silesia Region of Poland were examined for keratinophilic fungi. The intensity of growth on hair-bait, as well as the qualitative and quantitative distribution of keratomycetes in bottom sediments, depended on the level of sewage contamination of the water.

In situ measurement of radioactive contamination of bottom sediments
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2018A gamma spectrometric method is presented for in situ radiation monitoring of bottom sediments with contaminated layer of unknown thickness to be determined. The method, based on the processing of experimental spectra using the results of their simulation by the Monte Carlo method, is proposed and tested in practice.

MUTAGENICITY OF BOTTOM SEDIMENT FROM A WATER RESERVOIR
Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1985Abstract The bottom sediment of an earthen water reservoir was found to cause elevated somatic mutation frequencies in the stamen hair system of Tradescantia and a decrease in the transient chlorophyll fluorescence yield in leaves of Tradescantia and Zea mays. The mutation frequencies varied only slightly over time, and remained elevated

Survey of dioxins in Tokyo Bay bottom sediment
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2003This paper examines dioxin profiles in bottom sediments from Tokyo Bay, Japan using sedimentation dating based on 210Pb measurements and dioxin measurements based on particle size distributions. Dioxin concentrations in surface sediment ranged from 3.2 to 52 pg-TEQ g(-1), with the concentrations in the bay back and central region being higher than ...

Bottom sediments of Georges Bank
Journal of Sedimentary Research, 1961Abstract A survey of Georges Bank [New England continental shelf] bottom sediments was undertaken to provide basic data for use in studying the relationships between substrate composition and the occurrence of benthic animals, especially those which are common foods of fishes.

Geophysical Imaging of the Bottom Sediments of Underwater Quarries
Proceedings, 2014The definition of the nature of the bottom sediments in underwater gravel and sand quarries represents a major problem for the Mining Authorities in Italy. Bylaw the residual fine sediments could not be dumped in the water. Furthermore the damping of fine sediments is often used to mask non-compliance excavations.

The sorption of Zectran on bottom sediments and peat moss
Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part B, 1981A modified analytical method employed to determine the insecticide Zectran in natural waters frequently has resulted in erroneous data. The errors have been attributed to interferences from particulate matter in these waters. In order to evaluate analytical interferences due to sorption of Zectran on particulates, a series of experiments was performed ...

Element cycling in bottom sediments
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1985Abstract Significant cycling of trace elements can occur during early diagenesis of oceanic sediments. For some elements this leads to a benthic flux at the water—sediment interface which influences their distributions in the water column.
