Tunable bound states in the continuum in active metasurfaces of graphene disk dimers

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2023
Bound states in the continuum (BICs) in metasurfaces have lately attracted a great deal of attention stemming from their inherent (formally) divergent Q factors, which lead to an enhancement of light–matter interaction in two-dimensional geometries ...

Circularly Polarized States Spawning from Bound States in the Continuum [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
Bound states in the continuum in periodic photonic systems like photonic crystal slabs are proved to be accompanied by vortex polarization singularities on the photonic bands in the momentum space. The winding structures of polarization states not only widen the field of topological physics but also show great potential that such systems could be ...

Bound States in the Continuum in Compact Acoustic Resonators [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2022
We reveal that finite-size solid acoustic resonators can support genuine bound states in the continuum (BICs) completely localized inside the resonator. The developed theory provides the multipole classification of such BICs in the resonators of various shapes.

Polarization-based branch selection of bound states in the continuum in dielectric waveguide modes anti-crossed by a metal grating

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2019
We investigate bound states in the continuum (BICs) in a planar dielectric waveguide structure consisting of a gold grating on a dielectric layer with a back layer of metal.

Topological Subspace-Induced Bound State in the Continuum [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2017
We propose and experimentally realize a new kind of bound states in the continuum (BICs) in a class of systems constructed by coupling multiple identical one-dimensional chains, each with inversion symmetry. In such systems, a specific separation of the Hilbert space into a topological and a nontopological subspace exists.

Double-Strip Array-Based Metasurfaces with BICs for Terahertz Thin Membrane Detection

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
A double-strip array-based metasurface that supports the sharp quasi-bound states in the continuum (quasi-BICs) is demonstrated in terahertz regions.

Bound states in the continuum: localization of Dirac-like fermions

open access: yes, 2014
We report the formation of bound states in the continuum for Dirac-like fermions in structures composed by a trilayer graphene flake connected to nanoribbon leads. The existence of this kind of localized states can be proved by combining local density of

Asymmetric tetramer metasurface sensor governed by quasi-bound states in the continuum

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2023
Asymmetric metasurfaces supporting quasi-bound states in the continuum (BICs) with high Q-factors and strong light–matter interaction properties are attractive platforms for label-free biosensing applications.

Bound states in the continuum in open acoustic resonators

open access: yes, 2015
We consider bound states in the continuum (BSC) or embedded trapped modes in two- and three-dimensional acoustic axisymmetric duct-cavity structures. We demonstrate numerically that under variation of the length of the cavity multiple BSCs occur due to ...

Level Density in the Complex Scaling Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
It is shown that the continuum level density (CLD) at unbound energies can be calculated with the complex scaling method (CSM), in which the energy spectra of bound states, resonances and continuum states are obtained in terms of $L^2$ basis functions ...
