The Role of Ions on the Surface-Bound Water Structure at the Silica/Water Interface: Identifying the Spectral Signature of Stability

open access: yes, 2020
We explore the influence of salt addition on the structure of water interacting closely with a charged silica surface. Isolating these surface effects is challenging, even with surface-specific techniques like sum frequency generation (SFG), because of ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Bound Water in Stratum Corneum Measured by Differential Scanning Calorimetry

open access: yes, 1972
Differential scanning calorimetry has been used to study water binding in stratum corneum. Samples of various total water contents are frozen and melted and the latent heat of melting measured with a Perkin Elmer differential scanning calorimeter.

Prediction model of thermal conductivity of coal-water slurry based on coal particle-bonded water composite phase

open access: yesMeitan xuebao
Coal-water slurry gasification is one of advanced coal gasification technologies. The improvement on the efficiency of coal-water slurry gasification is helpful to promote the clean and efficient utilization of coal.

A proposed solution to the determination of water saturation: using a modelled equation

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Exploration and Production Technology, 2018
Reservoir characterization is an important phase in oil and gas field development, which takes place during the appraisal phase of either a green field or a brown field upon which further development options are considered.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Characterization and coagulation performance of covalently bound organic silicate aluminum hybrid coagulants: effects of Si/Al, B value and pH

open access: yes, 2015
Covalently bound inorganic-organic hybrid coagulants are believed to be the goal of coagulant development for water treatment. In this study, covalently bound organic silicate aluminum hybrid coagulants were synthesized by employing gamma ...

DOSE ASSESSMENT FOR INTAKE OF TRITIATED WATER IN HUMANS: ROLE OF TRITIUM INCORPORATION IN ORGANIC MATTER

open access: yesРадиационная гигиена, 2017
Tritium is one of the factors of internal exposure of the humans both in occupational and public environments. It enters the body mainly as tritiated water through inhalation, with food, drinks and through the skin; part of tritium gradually transforms ...

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Tillage effects on runoff water quality from sludge-amended soils

open access: yes, 1988
A rainfall simulator was used to study the effects of tillage system and sludge application method and rate on runoff, sediment, phosphorus (P), and nitrogen (N) losses from agricultural lands. Surface application and incorporation of sludge were studied.
