Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Effects of Boundary-Layer Ingestion on the Aero-Acoustics of Transonic Fan Rotors [PDF]
The use of boundary-layer-ingesting, embedded propulsion systems can result in inlet flow distortions where the interaction of the boundary-layer vorticity and the inlet lip causes horseshoe vortex formation and the ingestion of streamwise vortices into ...

Effects of boundary layer ingestion on ducted propeller noise
In this paper, the effects of boundary layer ingestion on the noise emitted from an academic ducted propeller are evaluated using lattice Boltzmann simulations and wind tunnel experiments. The boundary layer is generated by an aggressive S-plate placed upstream of the propeller and its impact is assessed by comparison with an isolated ducted propeller ...

A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Prediction of contra-rotating open rotor broadband noise in isolated and installed configurations
Broadband noise is a significant part of the noise emitted by contra-rotating open rotors. Several noise sources can contribute to the total broadband sound field, with the most dominant ones probably being trailing edge noise, rotor-wake interaction ...

Study on the Effects of Inflow Conditions on the Inlet Performance of a Dorsal S-Shaped Inlet
As an important aerodynamic configuration of the new-generation UAV, the dorsal S-shaped inlet’s performance is affected by the complex coupling of inflow conditions and the boundary layer ingestion effect.

Conceptual Design of Propulsion Systems for Boundary Layer Ingestion [PDF]
To reduce the climate impact of aviation new aircraft and engine concepts as well as improved design methods are needed. In this thesis, two fronts are explored. The first concerns improved methods for the conceptual design of the engine.
