Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Supersonic Shear Instabilities in Astrophysical Boundary Layers

open access: yes, 2011
Disk accretion onto weakly magnetized astrophysical objects often proceeds via a boundary layer that forms near the object's surface, in which the rotation speed of the accreted gas changes rapidly.

Cell density–dependent nuclear‐cytoplasmic shuttling of SETDB1 integrates with Hippo signaling to regulate YAP1‐mediated transcription

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At low cell density, SETDB1 and YAP1 accumulate in the nucleus. As cell density increases, the Hippo pathway is gradually activated, and SETDB1 is associated with increased YAP1 phosphorylation. At high cell density, phosphorylated YAP1 is sequestered in the cytoplasm, while SETDB1 becomes polyubiquitinated and degraded by the ubiquitin–proteasome ...

Nanofluid flow and heat transfer in boundary layers at small nanoparticle volume fraction: Zero nanoparticle flux at solid wall

open access: yesArchives of Mechanics, 2017
The continuum formulation is applied to the developing boundary layer problem, which approximates the entrance region of nanofluid flow in micro channels or tubes.

Geostrophic convective turbulence: The effect of boundary layers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Rayleigh--B\'enard (RB) convection, the flow in a fluid layer heated from below and cooled from above, is used to analyze the transition to the geostrophic regime of thermal convection. In the geostrophic regime, which is of direct relevance to most geo-

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Hydrodynamics in Two-Phase Turbulent Boundary Layers

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2018
The corrections for log law must be taken into account the presence of bubbles in the two phase turbulent boundary layer. In the present study, a logarithmic law for the wall based on the supposition of additional turbulent viscosity associated with ...

Electrode boundary layers in direct-current plasma accelerators [PDF]

open access: yes, 1961
One of the problems that must be faced in the development of direct-current plasma accelerators is that of boundary-layer growth on the electrode surfaces.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell
