An Experimental High‐Throughput Approach for the Screening of Hard Magnet Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An entire workflow for the high‐throughput characterization and analysis of compositionally graded magnetic films is presented. Characterization protocols, data management tools and data analysis approaches are illustrated with test case Sm(Fe, V)12 based films.

A uniqueness theorem for a free boundary problem

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper, we prove a uniqueness theorem for a free boundary problem which is given in the form of a variational inequality. This free boundary problem arises as the limit of an equation that serves as a basic model in population biology.

Fractional-order boundary value problem with Sturm-Liouville boundary conditions

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2015
Using the new conformable fractional derivative, which differs from the Riemann-Liouville and Caputo fractional derivatives, we reformulate the second-order conjugate boundary value problem in this new setting.

Influence of Surface Finish on the Tribological Performance of AlTiBN Coatings Deposited on Forming Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...

An elliptic boundary problem acting on generalized Sobolev spaces

open access: yes, 2017
We consider an elliptic boundary problem over a bounded region Ω in Rn and acting on the generalized Sobolev space W0,χp(Ω) for 1n or a closed manifold acting on W0,χ2(Ω), called H\"{o}rmander space, have been the subject of investigation by various ...

A free boundary problem connected with the optimal stopping problem for diffusion processes

open access: yes, 1973
This paper deals with a free boundary problem for a parabolic equation in one space variable which arises from the problem of selecting an optimal stopping strategy for the diffusion process connected with the equation. It is shown that a solution of the

Low Cycle Repetitive Loading of Ti‐6Al‐4V‐Epoxy Composite Lattice Structures for Enhanced Energy Dissipation and Damage Tolerance

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Composite Ti–6Al–4V–epoxy lattice structures are additively manufactured and epoxy infiltrated for cyclic loading. At low lattice volume fractions, hybridization produces synergistic gains in stiffness and energy dissipation. At higher volume fractions, synergy diminishes, although composites still exceed metallic lattices in specific energy ...

Shape Optimization Approach to a Free Boundary Problem

open access: yes, 2015
We take a shape optimization approach to solve a free boundary problem of the Poisson equation numerically. A numerical method called traction method invented by one of the authors are applied.

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

A discrete bernoulli free boundary problem

open access: yes
We consider a free boundary problem for the p-Laplace operator which is related to the so-called Bernoulli free boundary problem. In this formulation, the classical boundary gradient condition is replaced by a condition on the distance between two di ...
