Anomalies, boundaries and the in-in formalism

open access: yes, 2012
In the context of quantum field theory, an anomaly exists when a theory has a classical symmetry which is not a symmetry of the quantum theory. This short exposition aims at introducing a new point of view, which is that the proper setting for anomaly ...

Boundary Entropy Can Increase Under Bulk RG Flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The boundary entropy log(g) of a critical one-dimensional quantum system (or two-dimensional conformal field theory) is known to decrease under renormalization group (RG) flow of the boundary theory.

Intermolecular Interactions as Driving Force of Increasing Multiphoton Absorption in a Perylene Diimide‐Based Coordination Polymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study uncovers the unexplored role of intermolecular interactions in multiphoton absorption in coordination polymers. By analyzing [Zn2tpda(DMA)2(DMF)0.3], it shows how the electronic coupling of the chromophores and confinement in the MOF enhance two‐and three‐photon absorption.

Thermal Casimir effect with general boundary conditions

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2020
In this paper we study the system of a scalar quantum field confined between two plane, isotropic, and homogeneous parallel plates at thermal equilibrium.

On a_2^(1) Reflection Matrices and Affine Toda Theories

open access: yes, 1998
We construct new non-diagonal solutions to the boundary Yang-Baxter-Equation corresponding to a two-dimensional field theory with U_q(a_2^(1)) quantum affine symmetry on a half-line.

Quantum field theory on manifolds with a boundary [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 2005
We discuss quantum theory of fields defined on (d+1)-dimensional manifold {\cal M} with a boundary {\cal B}. The free action W_{0}( ) which is a bilinear form in defines the Gaussian measure with a covariance (Green function) {\cal G}. We discuss a relation between the quantum field theory with a fixed boundary condition and the theory defined ...

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

Remarks on the influence of quantum vacuum fluctuations over a charged test particle near a conducting wall

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
Quantum vacuum fluctuations of the electromagnetic field in empty space seem not to produce observable effects over the motion of a charged test particle.

Local entanglement generation in the adiabatic regime

open access: yes, 2010
We study entanglement generation in a pair of qubits interacting with an initially correlated system. Using time independent perturbation theory and the adiabatic theorem, we show conditions under which the qubits become entangled as the joint system ...

Towards quantum field theory on spacetimes with boundaries [PDF]

open access: yesThe Fourteenth Marcel Grossmann Meeting, 2017
Algebraic quantization has been applied on the class of globally hyperbolic spacetime for many decades, leading to remarkable results. Nonetheless, the presence of a boundary calls for a separate treatment, since, in general, it breaks global hyperbolicity and it requires the introduction of boundary conditions to the field equation. Although a general
