Error Bounds for Approximations to Expectation Values of Unbounded Operators

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1966
A bound for |(BΨ, Ψ) — (Bφ, φ)|, the error between the expectation value of a self-adjoint operator B on an eigenfunction Ψ of a self-adjoint Hamiltonian H and the value given by an approximating vector φ, is obtained when H is a radial Schödinger operator and B is multiplicative and unbounded.

Conformation ofLac repressor tetramer in solution, bound and unbound to operator DNA

Microscopy Research and Technique, 1997
We tested whether the Steitz et al. [(1974) Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A., 71:593-597] model of lactose repressor (LacR) (14 x 6.0 x 4.5 nm) represented the shape of free or operator-bound LacR in solution. The model predicts a 14 nm length for bound LacR. Direct measurement, using Pt-C shadow width standards, was 9.6 +/- 0.2 nm long.

Bounds for eigenvalues of a class of unbounded, nonsymmetric operators

Numerical Functional Analysis and Optimization, 1983
A method is presented for generating a sequence of lower and upper bounds for the eigenvalues of the problem (i) Tu-λSu = 0, where T and S belong to a class of unbounded and nonsymmetric operators in a separable Hilbert space. Sufficient conditions are derived for the convergence of the sequence of bounds to the eigenvalues of (i), and the ...

Approximation of unbounded operators by bounded operators and related extremal problems

Russian Mathematical Surveys, 1996
The unit sphere in \(L^p\oplus L^q\) \dots{} In this expository article, dedicated to the memory of Sergei Borisovich Stechkin, the author describes the current state of affairs with regards to the question of approximation of unbounded linear operators by bounded linear operators on a class of elements of a Banach space starting with the formulation ...
