Bounds for Kullback-Leibler divergence

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2016
Entropy, conditional entropy and mutual information for discrete-valued random variables play important roles in the information theory. The purpose of this paper is to present new bounds for relative entropy $D(p||q)$ of two probability distributions

Some bounds on the coupon collector problem with universal coupon

open access: yesAnalele Stiintifice ale Universitatii Ovidius Constanta: Seria Matematica
We consider a generalization of the coupon collector problem with unequal probabilities, such that there are two additional coupons in the coupon set: one that speeds up the coupon collection process, and the one that slows it down.

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

"Sharp Bounds in the Binary Roy Model" [PDF]

open access: yes
We derive the empirical content of an instrumental variables model of sectorial choice with binary outcomes. Assumptions on selection include the simple, extended and generalized Roy models.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

k-Fractional Estimates of Hermite–Hadamard Type Inequalities Involving k-Appell’s Hypergeometric Functions and Applications

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2019
The main objective of this paper is to obtain certain new k-fractional estimates of Hermite−Hadamard type inequalities via s-convex functions of Breckner type essentially involving k-Appell’s hypergeometric functions.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.
