Macroeconomic drivers of chemical industry stock prices: a comparative analysis of US and German markets

open access: yesCogent Economics & Finance
This study investigates the impact of macroeconomic factors—inflation, interest rates, exchange rates, money supply, and crisis events—on chemical industry index prices in the US and Germany, using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Lower Bounds for Convexity Testing

open access: yes
We consider the problem of testing whether an unknown and arbitrary set $S \subseteq \mathbb{R}^n$ (given as a black-box membership oracle) is convex, versus $\varepsilon$-far from every convex set, under the standard Gaussian distribution. The current state-of-the-art testing algorithms for this problem make $2^{\tilde{O}(\sqrt{n})\cdot \mathrm{poly ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Influence of Lipschitz bounds on the speed of global optimization

open access: yesTechnological and Economic Development of Economy, 2012
Global optimization methods based on Lipschitz bounds have been analyzed and applied widely to solve various optimization problems. In this paper a bound for Lipschitz function is proposed, which is computed using function values at the vertices of a ...

A Generalized Variance Bounds Test

open access: yes, 1987
This paper presents a two-country overlapping generations model in which financial intermediation arises endogenously as an incentive-compatible means of economizing on monitoring costs. Because of the existence of transactions costs, money markets in the two countries are segmented and investors have differential access to international credit markets.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Improved bounds for testing Dyck languages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper we consider the problem of deciding membership in Dyck languages, a fundamental family of context-free languages, comprised of well-balanced strings of parentheses. In this problem we are given a string of length $n$ in the alphabet of parentheses of $m$ types and must decide if it is well-balanced.

Bounds, Breaks and Unit Root Tests [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Time Series Analysis, 2015
The paper addresses the unit root testing when the range of the time series is limited and considering the presence of multiple structural breaks. The structural breaks can affect the level and/or the boundaries of the time series. The paper proposes five unit root test statistics, whose limiting distribution is shown to depend on the number and ...
