Properties of colostrokinin from bovine colostrum

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1969
Abstract Various biological and chemical properties of colostrokinin were studied. Vasodilatation in dogs, stimulation of smooth muscles of rats and increasing capillary permeability in guinea pigs were observed as the pharmacological actions.

Detection of cytokines in bovine colostrum

Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 2000
Colostrum contains factors that are protective for the neonate and may be a source of immunomodulary molecules that positively influence the immune status of the neonate. To confirm that colostrum contains a variety of cytokines with immunomodulatory properties, we established a bovine cytokine specific ELISA and five cytokines (IL-1 beta, IL-6, TNF ...

Therapeutic potentials of bovine colostrums

The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 2005
Colostrum is the first milk produced by mammals for their young ones. This transfers the passive immunity gained by the mother to the baby. The bovine colostrum (BC) can be obtained in large quantity and has properties similar to human colostrum. It has been used for various disorders of the body.

κ-Casein from bovine colostrum

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure, 1974
Abstract Whole casein from colostrum contains more κ-casein than normal casein. Structural studies have shown that the caseinoglycopeptide (C-terminal moiety) of κ-casein seems to be already present at parturition. Colostrum κ-casein contains about two times more carbohydrate than normal casein and the presence of N-acetylglucosamine together with N ...

A review of bovine colostrum preservation techniques

Journal of Dairy Research, 2022
AbstractPreservation of colostrum for neonatal dairy calves has seldom been seldom in recent years, much of the peer reviewed literature having been published in the 1970s and 1980s. First milking colostrum is high in bioactive immune enhancers such as immunoglobulins, lactoferrins, lysozymes and cytokines and is vital to confer passive immunity to ...

Antibacterial and Antiinflammatory Properties of Bovine Colostrum

Recent Patents on Inflammation & Allergy Drug Discovery, 2016
Immunity related disorder is one of the leading causes of disease in the world. Oxidative stress and microbial infections play a major role in inflammation-induced diseases. Bovine colostrum (BC) contains immunoglobulins and lactoferrins which help in building the immunity and protect against the bacterial proliferation and growth. This study was ...

Bovine Colostrum Supplementation and Exercise Performance

Sports Medicine, 2009
Bovine colostrum (BC) is rich in immune, growth and antimicrobial factors, which promote tissue growth and the development of the digestive tract and immune function in neonatal calves. Although the value of BC to human adults is not well understood, supplementation with BC is becoming increasingly popular in trained athletes to promote exercise ...

Cytotoxic and Blocking Effect of Bovine Colostrum

Journal of Veterinary Medicine, Series B, 1988
SummaryFrequency of intramammary infection and clinical mastitis during the first weeks of lactation, despite high leukocyte counts and high immunoglobulin levels is an immunological paradox. Investigations were made to examine the cause of reduced phagocytic activity by polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL) and macrophages from the 3rd day before to the

Thrombocytopenic purpura in lambs given bovine colostrum

Veterinary Record, 1994
Newborn lambs which had been given colostrum from a single cow developed thrombocytopenia and seven died. The clinical signs included purpura, haemoglobinuria, melaena, dullness and lethargy. The lambs died at one to two days old. Post mortem examination revealed widespread haemorrhages throughout the body.

Bovine Colostrum, Telomeres, and Skin Aging.

Journal of drugs in dermatology : JDD, 2021
Applied topically, growth factors, cytokines, and other components in bovine colostrum are known to affect collagen biosynthesis, thus offering promise as a therapeutic modality in wound healing, delay in skin aging, and skin rejuvenation. To demonstrate the protective effect that liposomal bovine colostrum exerts on skin aging using telomere length as ...
