Secreted Nonstructural Protein 3 is a Pathogenic Determinant of Orbivirus
This study uncovers a conserved PIP2‐dependent secretory pathway of orbivirus NS3 that induces vascular leakage. Pharmacological disruption of PIP2‐NS3 interaction significantly reduces viral pathogenicity and provides protective efficacy in murine models, establishing PIP2‐mediated NS3 secretion as both a key virulence determinant and a promising ...

Development of an IgY-Based Treatment to Control Bovine Coronavirus Diarrhea in Dairy Calves
Bovine Coronavirus (BCoV) is a major pathogen associated with neonatal calf diarrhea. Standard practice dictates that to prevent BCoV diarrhea, dams should be immunized in the last stage of pregnancy to increase BCoV-specific antibody (Ab) titers in ...

Palmitoylation by ZDHHC18 blocks ORF3a K27‐linked ubiquitination mediated by TRIM16, thereby preventing its proteasomal degradation and strengthening viral pathogenesis. Targeting palmitoylation through a pharmacological inhibitor (2‐BP), a competitive inhibitory peptide (OPIP), or adenovirus‐mediated knockdown of ZDHHC18 expression presents a ...

The yak (Bosgrunniens) is a unique domestic bovine species that plays an indispensable role for herdsmen in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Here, 336 diarrhoeic samples were collected from yaks on 29 farms in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau from 2015 to 2017.

Estimating the human health risk from possible BSE infection of the British sheep flock.
Following the controversial failure of a recent study and the small numbers of animals yet screened for infection, it remains uncertain whether bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) was transmitted to sheep in the past via feed supplements and whether ...

This study identifies RNA‐binding protein RBM25 as a broad‐spectrum antiviral factor acting independently of type I interferon. It blocks viral entry by suppressing GTPase Rab22a via the RC3H1‐mediated destabilization of Rab22a mRNA. Viral downregulation of RBM25 enhances GTPase Rab22a expression and viral entry, revealing an unreported post ...

Characterization of Winter Dysentery Bovine Coronavirus Isolated from Cattle in Israel
Bovine coronavirus (BCoV) is the causative agent of winter dysentery (WD). In adult dairy cattle, WD is characterized by hemorrhagic diarrhea and a reduction in milk production. Therefore, WD leads to significant economic losses in dairy farms.

S100A8/A9‐high macrophages are markedly enriched in the stenotic intestinal tissue of patients with Crohn's disease. These profibrotic macrophages secrete mCCL6 in a STAT3‐dependent manner. mCCL6 and its human ortholog hCCL15 activate fibroblasts via the CCR1 receptor, thereby driving excessive collagen deposition.

Temporal Regulation of RNA Synthesis of Bovine Coronavirus [PDF]
It has been shown with mouse hepatitis virus (MHV) and avian infectious bronchitis virus that all of the subgenomic mRNAs and genomic RNA are synthesized at the same rate throughout the viral replication cycle (Leibowitz et al., 1981; Stern and Kennedy, 1980). The viral genomic RNA gradually accumulates late in infection.

Incidence of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in Switzerland.
The incidence of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) in Switzerland increased two-fold in 2001, and figures from the first quarter of 2002 indicate that it continues to rise.
