Respiratory infection of cattle with bovine herpesvirus type 1 (BHV-1) predisposes cattle to secondary pneumonia with Mannheimia haemolytica as part of the bovine respiratory disease complex (BRD). One cell type that has received limited investigation for its role in the inflammation that accompanies BRD is the respiratory epithelial cell.

Isolation of Bovine Herpesvirus Type 1 From Bovine Semen in Turkey

In this study, semen samples from sixty bulls were used for virus isolation into sensitive cell culture. Five viruses were isolated by inoculation of 60 semen samples into the cell cultures. The isolated viruses were identified as BHV-1 according to results of cross microneutralization test by using hyperimmun sera from rabbits.

Effect of dexamethasone on bovine leukocyte functions and bovine herpesvirus type-1 replication.

In an attempt to elucidate the mechanism whereby dexamethasone could reactivate bovine herpesvirus type-1 the effect of dexamethasone on virus replication and leukocyte functions was assessed. No effect was detectable on either virus yield or in vitro replication kinetics.
