Rotavirus Inhibitor and Recovery in Raw Bovine Milk

Milk could be a vector for viruses contaminating the human gut, but detection of rotavirus in raw bovine milk is prevented by the presence of a very active antiviral substance. Rotavirus inhibition by various milk samples and the nature of the inhibitor were examined, and an improved method for rotavirus detection in raw bovine milk was designed.

Bovine rotavirus was found to multiply efficiently in LLC-MK2 cells, a continuous line of rhesus monkey kidney, with a growth cycle which was essentially completed within 9 h after infection. The presence of low concentrations of trypsin (10 microgram/ml) in the virus inoculum was essential for infectivity.

Molecular Characterization of Virulent Genes and Antimicrobial Resistance Patterns of Escherichia coli Isolated From Calf Scours in Western Iran

This study in Western Iran analysed E. coli in diarrhoeic neonatal calves and identified 307 isolates from 350 faecal samples. The pathotypes included EHEC (36.59%), EPEC (20.42%), ETEC (14.46%), STEC (12.34%) and NTEC (11.48%), with four STEC O157:H7 isolates. Serotypes O103 and O15 were the most common.
