Chinese Trade Competition and Rural Mexican Migration

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT China's accession to the World Trade Organization in 2001 reshaped global trade, reducing U.S. demand for Mexican manufactured goods and weakening Mexico's manufacturing employment. This study estimates how this trade‐induced decline affected migration and employment decisions among rural Mexicans.

Temporary Programs, Lasting Questions: Ad Hoc Assistance in the U.S. Farm Safety Net

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Large ad hoc assistance programs have returned to U.S. farm policy since 2017, operating alongside a more developed safety net built around federally subsidized crop insurance, Title I commodity programs, and standing disaster assistance. This paper reviews the renewed use of ad hoc assistance, documents its recent scale using USDA data, and ...

Numerical Study of the Circular Cylinder in Supersonic Ground Effect Conditions

open access: yes, 2018
A numerical study of the aerodynamics of a circular cylinder section in proximity to the ground surface was performed, for Mach numbers of 1.5 and 2.9 and ground clearances between 2 and 0.125, non-dimensional with respect to the cylinder diameter.

Foreign labor, peer‐networking and agricultural efficiency in the Italian dairy sector

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
Abstract While the presence of immigrants in the agricultural sector is widely acknowledged, the empirical evidence on its economic consequences is lacking, especially from a microeconomic perspective. Using the Farm Accountancy Data Network panel data for Italian dairy farms in the period 2008–2018, the present study investigates the relationship ...

Pesticide MRLs as Trade Barriers: Evidence From Vietnam's Coffee and Rice Exporters

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As tariffs have declined globally through bilateral and regional trade agreements, food safety standards have emerged as significant determinants of agricultural trade flows. This study examines the impact of maximum residue limits (MRLs) for five pesticides—Azoxystrobin, Chlorpyrifos, Chlorantraniliprole, Clothianidin, and Cyhalothrin—on ...

Projectile aerodynamics: Measurement and computation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
An experimental study has been performed at M∞=8.2 and Re∞/cm=93000 to examine: 1. The effect of strakes on the aerodynamic characteristics and performance on slender elliptic cone missile configurations.

Aerothermodynamic Simulators for Rocket Design using Neural Fields

open access: yes, 2023
The typical size of computational meshes needed for realistic geometries and high-speed flow conditions makes Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) impractical for full-mission performance prediction and control.

Simulation of high speed flows

open access: yes, 2020
There is a reinterest in hypersonic flow. There are several programs all around the world to produce hypersonic aircraft. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is an essential tool for high speed aerodynamics.

Functional models from limited data: A parametric and multimodal approach to anatomy and 3D kinematics of feeding in basking sharks (Cetorhinus maximus)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Basking sharks, Cetorhinus maximus (Gunnerus, Brugden [Squalus maximus], Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskabs Skrifter, 1765, vol. 3, pp. 33–49), feed by gaping their mouths and gill slits, greatly reorienting their cranial skeletons to filter food from water.

Type I to type II transition in swept-forward fin shock interactions

open access: yes
The transition from type I to II in the swept-forward fin-shock interaction is studied both numerically and analytically. The transition conditions are numerically obtained using an inviscid computational fluid dynamics method.
