A Kennicutt-Schmidt Law for Intervening Absorption Line Systems

open access: yes, 2010
We argue that most strong intervening metal absorption line systems, where the rest equivalent width of the MgII 2796A line is >0.5A, are interstellar material in, and outflowing from, star-forming disks.

Understanding bidirectional and transactional relations in parent and offspring mental health: Using COVID‐19 pandemic data to gain insights

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
This study found that parent internalising symptoms predicted internalising symptoms in younger children, with no evidence of child‐driven effects. Among adolescents, mental health symptoms showed bidirectional associations with parent internalising symptoms, particularly for externalising symptoms.

Validating Evapotranspiraiton Equations Using Bowen Ratio in New Brunswick, Maritime, Canada

open access: yesSensors, 2008
Three methods including the Penman-Monteith (PM), Priestley-Taylor (PT), and 1963 Penman equation (PE) for calculating daily reference evapotranspiration (ETo) were evaluated in the Maritime region of Canada with the data collected from 2004 to 2007.

Estimation of the potential evapotranspiration by a simplified penman method Estimativa da evapotranspiração potencial pelo método de Penman-Simplificado

open access: yesEngenharia Agrícola, 2006
The numerous methods for calculating the potential or reference evapotranspiration (ETo or ETP) almost always do for a 24-hour period, including values of climatic parameters throughout the nocturnal period (daily averages).

FUSE Observations of a Full Orbit of Hercules X-1: Signatures of Disk, Star, and Wind

open access: yes, 2007
We observed an entire 1.7 day orbit of the X-ray binary Hercules X-1 with the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE). Changes in the O VI 1032,1037 line profiles through eclipse ingress and egress indicate a Keplerian accretion disk spinning ...

Geochronology of the Whittlesey sedimentary succession, eastern England: The ‘Pompeii’ of the British late Middle Pleistocene to Holocene record

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract The sedimentary succession at Whittlesey preserves a unique British late Middle Pleistocene to Holocene record back to a time equivalent to at least marine oxygen isotope stage 8 (ca. 250 ka). This study builds on previously published sedimentology, geochronology and palaeoecology results to establish 20 sedimentary facies associations, with ...

A semi-empirical model of the energy balance closure in the surface layer.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
It has been hypothesized that the energy balance closure problem of single-tower eddy-covariance measurements is linked to large-scale turbulent transport. In order to shed light on this problem, we investigate the functional dependence of the normalized

Damped Lyman-alpha Absorption Associated with an Early-Type Galaxy at Redshift z = 0.16377

open access: yes, 1997
We report new HST and ground-based observations of a damped Lyman-alpha absorption system toward the QSO 0850+4400. The redshift of the absorption system is z = 0.163770 and the neutral hydrogen column density of the absorption system is log N = 19.81 cm*

Data‐Independent Acquisition Mass Spectrometry in Tumor Classification and Cancer Biomarker Research

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
Abstract Cancer treatment is far from optimal also because current classification systems do not reflect the complex molecular status of the tumor and its phenotype in sufficient detail. To construct molecular tumor classifiers, omics tools provide complex molecular data reflecting many aspects from genotype to phenotype.

Future exposure to moist heat extremes linked to soil dryness

open access: yesnpj Climate and Atmospheric Science
Soil moisture critically modulates moist heat via surface energy fluxes, impacting human health and ecosystems under climate change. Using CMIP6 models with or without interactive soil moisture, we dissect its global role.
