Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

A second look at counting triangles in graph streams [PDF]
In this paper we present improved results on the problem of counting triangles in edge streamed graphs. For graphs with m edges and at least T triangles, we show that an extra look over the stream yields a two-pass streaming algorithm that uses O((m)/(ε4.

Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Enhancement of the Box-Counting Algorithm for Fractal Dimension Estimation
Abstract The box-counting (BC) method is frequently used as a measure of irregularity and roughness of fractals with self-similarity property due to its simplicity and high reliability. It requires a proper choice of the number of box sizes, corresponding sizes, and size limits to guarantee the accuracy of the fractal dimension estimation.

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Fractal and multifractal spatiotemporal patterns of land surface temperatures in a coastal city
In order to discover the fractal and multifractal nature of land surface temperature (LST) spatiotemporal patterns, this study computed the LST in thecoastal city, Xiamen, southeastern China using Landsat TM/OLI/TIRS images from 1994 to 2015, and ...
