Divergent roles of ent‐kaurene oxidase paralogs in rice momilactone biosynthesis

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Rice contains a five‐gene tandem array of genes encoding members of the ent‐kaurene oxidase (KO) family, with OsKOL4 and OsKOL5 playing divergent roles in momilactone metabolism, but both acting in the production of antifungal and antibacterial phytoalexins, which are important for disease resistance.

Coniferyl aldehyde from the phenylpropanoid pathway targets pyruvate kinase in Dactylobotrys graminicola to confer sheath rot resistance in hulless barley

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Hulless barley resists the newly identified sheath rot disease caused by the necrotrophic fungal pathogen Dactylobotrys graminicola by releasing coniferyl aldehyde, a natural compound that disrupts energy production in the fungus. ABSTRACT Dactylobotrys graminicola (Dgr), a necrotrophic fungal pathogen, has recently been identified as the causative ...

Reimagining Perinatal Care in Alabama Through Innovative Partnerships

open access: yesJournal of Midwifery &Women's Health, EarlyView.
Abstract Childbearing families in the United States, especially in rural communities, face inconsistent access to high‐quality maternity care, with many experiencing sparse and fragmented services. In response to long‐standing disparities in Alabama, we created the Women and Children Health Initiative (WACHI), a coordinated hub that advances midwifery ...

The Capital–Labour–State Dynamics of Herbicide Adoption in Rainfed India

open access: yesJournal of Agrarian Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper engages debates around the capital–labour–state dynamics of agrarian transitions to address the oft‐studied but still little‐understood question of why farmers adopt herbicides when they do. Over the last several years, smallholder farmers in India have begun using the herbicide bispyribac sodium at breakneck speeds, particularly in

Embedded Pesticide Use: Exploring the Pesticide‐Land Nexus

open access: yesJournal of Agrarian Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Since the turn of the century, global land grabs, farmland financialization and land‐based food sovereignty movements have returned the land question to the heart of agrarian studies. Meanwhile, abiding interest in pesticides has been reanimated in the face of changes in production, regulation and knowledge of toxicity.
