Vertical temperature gradients of concrete box girder caused by solar radiation in Sichuan-Tibet railway

Journal of Zhejiang University: Science A, 2022
Spatial and temporal temperature variations are critical for concrete box girders, and non-uniform temperature distributions induced by solar radiation depend on the structural shapes and shadows cast on them.

Box-shaped girders

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1975
Abstract The influence of rigidity and spacing of diaphragms on the deformation of a thin-walled one- to four-cell beam cross-section symmetrical about two axes was studied. The end cross-section of a simply supported beam subjected to antisymmetric loads applied mid-span of the beam keeps its shape and allows warping of the cross-section.

Effect of encased concrete on section temperature gradient of corrugated steel web box girder

, 2021
Thirty-two temperature sensors, a solar radiation sensor, wind speed, and direction sensor were installed on the bridge for the field monitoring of structural temperature, solar radiation, and wind. The frequency was set at 60 min for 211 days. Empirical

Analysis of Box Girders with Diaphragms

Journal of the Structural Division, 1968
Analyses based on thin-walled beam theory are presented for multicell box girders of deformable cross section. The influence of flexible interior diaphragms on stresses arising from deformation of the cross section is investigated for torsional loadings and box-cell properties appropriate for steel and reinforced concrete highway bridges.

Shear Lag in Box Girders

Journal of the Structural Division, 1981
An initial approximate method is presented to evaluate the shear lag phenomenon in reinforced concrete single-box girder bridges. Assuming an ideal cross-section and considering a symmetrical deformation of the top and bottom slabs, but preserving continuity conditions at the web-slab intersection points, a fourth order non-homogeneous differential ...

Experimental study on protection of prestressed concrete box girder under vehicle explosion of bridge deck

Structural Concrete
This paper presents a study on the explosion protection of prestressed concrete box girder, which is a commonly used in concrete bridges. The explosion protection tests of four prestressed box beams were designed with 1:5 scale.

Vortex-induced Vibration and Control of Split Three-Box Girder Bridges

Structural Engineering International, 2021
The vortex-induced vibration (VIV) performance and aerodynamic mechanism of VIV control of a split three-box girder bridge were investigated numerically by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

Box Girder Model Studies

Journal of the Structural Division, 1969
AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF THE STRESSES IN A BOX GIRDER SUBJECTED TO CONCENTRIC AND TORSIONAL LOADING CONFIGURATION IS DESCRIBED. TESTS WERE CONDUCTED ON A PLEXIGLAS MODEL TO EXAMINE THE EFFECTS OF INTERIOR DIAPHRAGMS IN REDUCING THE WARPING AND DISTORTION STRESSES CAUSED BY DEFORMATION OF THE CROSS SECTION.

Health monitoring of steel box girder bridges using non-contact sensors

Structures, 2021
This study investigates the behavior of simple and continuous span steel box girder bridges after various damage scenarios, including bracing failure and girder fracture, and develops a non-contact bridge health monitoring technique based on the bridge ...
