Approximations for Moments in Box Girders

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1985
Simple design approximations are presented for determining the transverse moments in single‐span, single‐cell concrete box girder bridges. Five representative loading cases are considered which can be used in combination to model a range of vertical dead and live loading and wind loading. The design approximations are based on the analysis of the cross

Effects of the angle of attack on the aerodynamic characteristics of a streamlined box girder

, 2021
This paper presents experimental and numerical approaches to systematically investigate the aerodynamic characteristics of streamlined box girder at angles of attack (AoA) of up to 12°.

A comparative study on wave-deck interactions of T-type and box girder decks under regular waves

Ocean Engineering, 2021
Extreme wave forces have damaged massive coastal bridges in the past decades. To the best knowledge of the authors, a direct comparison of dynamic wave-deck interactions between T-type and Box girder decks under the same wave conditions has not been ...

Proportioning of Box Girder Bridges

Journal of the Structural Division, 1980
The selection of proper plate sized for box girder bridges, requires extensive trials and experience. Often this experience is not transferred to the engineering community because it is limited in that only several such bridges may have been designed.

Box girders

Chapter 5 discusses the behavior and design of box-girder bridges under traffic loads. First, the response of a rectilinear, closed, hollow-section girder is examined under the action of an eccentrically applied traffic load. The girder is considered to have a deformable profile, which means that the theory from the previous chapter cannot be applied ...

Concrete Box-Girder Bridges

1982
<p>The box girder is today the most widely used superstructure in cocnrete bridge construction. The aim of this document is to relieve the engineer of the study of today's hardly surveyable mass of literature on the subject so that he can better devote that time to the actual design of the bridge.

Steel Box Girder Bridges

Engineering Journal, 1973
The steel box girder bridge, because of its structural efficiency and aesthetics, has become increasingly popular as a bridge type. Because of four unfortunate erection accidents of box girder bridges in Austria, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Germany, this type of structure has received much recent attention.

Experimental study on stability of orthotropic steel box girder of self-anchored suspension cable-stayed bridge

, 2021
Self-anchored suspension cable-stayed bridges generate large axial forces on the main beam, thereby affecting the stability of the steel box beam, which is essential to the stability and safety of the bridge. Herein, the stability of an orthotropic steel

Fatigue assessment of a full-scale composite box-girder with corrugated-steel-webs and concrete-filled-tubular flange

, 2021
Performance and aesthetic considerations push the bridge industry towards new structural solutions. A new type of composite box girder with corrugated steel webs was proposed, which utilizes concrete-filled wide-flat steel tube replacing concrete slab as

Curved Box‐Girder Bridges

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1988
Based on the curvilinear coordinate system, the spline finite strip method is extended to the elasto-static analysis of circular and noncircular box-girder bridges. As the curvature effect cannot be ignored, the webs of the bridges have to be treated as thin shells and the flanges as flat curved plates.
