Steel Box Girder Bridges

Engineering Journal, 1973
The steel box girder bridge, because of its structural efficiency and aesthetics, has become increasingly popular as a bridge type. Because of four unfortunate erection accidents of box girder bridges in Austria, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Germany, this type of structure has received much recent attention.

Strengthening Concrete Box Girder Bridges

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1990
There is, at a theoretical level, a direct relationship between the effects of prestressing, temperature, support settlement, and creep redistribution in concrete box girder bridges. At a more practical level, the net effect of thermal gradients or creep redistribution is to impose a positive secondary moment onto the structure, which can be balanced ...

Analysis of Box Girders with Diaphragms

Journal of the Structural Division, 1968
Analyses based on thin-walled beam theory are presented for multicell box girders of deformable cross section. The influence of flexible interior diaphragms on stresses arising from deformation of the cross section is investigated for torsional loadings and box-cell properties appropriate for steel and reinforced concrete highway bridges.

Externally Prestressed Steel Box Girder Bridge

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
With a small cross section, a light deadweight and a convenient replaceable tendon, externally prestressed bridges have many special traits compared with other bridges. With a practical case, this paper analyzes the design of externally prestressed steel box girder bridges, which contains the bridge span, beam construction, externally prestressed ...

Box Girder Bridge Diaphragms with Openings

Journal of the Structural Division, 1979
The diaphragms considered in this study are of the type frequently met in box girder bridges supported on single slender piers. The outside loads are assumed to be transmitted from the bridge main girders to the inclined (or vertical) surfaces of the diaphragms in the form of uniform shearing forces.

Bracing for composite box girder bridges

Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 1984
For steel–concrete composite box girder bridges, the steelwork is generally erected first and then the concrete deck cast. During construction the girder may be subjected to a variety of construction loads. If the girder is a flexible open section, and lacks distortional or torsional stiffness, the cross section will deform or twist excessively; such ...

Steel–Concrete Composite Box Girder Bridges

1999
This chapter focuses on straight steel–concrete composite box-girder bridges. A single box girder with multiple cells is economical for very long spans. Multiple webs reduce the flange shear lag and also share the shear forces. A composite box section usually consists of two webs, a bottom flange, two top flanges and shear connectors welded to the top ...

Strength of Steel Box-Girder Bridges

Journal of the Structural Division, 1975
The research on steel box girders in the United Kingdom which followed the recent bridge disasters is reviewed. The feature special to box girders rather than plate girders is the wider use of thin stiffened plate in the former. Because of this many of the design procedures developed for plate girders are not directly applicable to box girders.

Overview of Precast Segmental Box Girder

2019
This chapter gives updates on the current work for segmental box girder (SBG) under static load test and the measurement to determine the elastic behavior, displacement, stress and strain of the SBG. Moreover, study on finite element analysis (FEA) and transversal slope on SBG is also highlighted in this chapter.
