Micro‐Nanoplastics Significantly Increase Adverse Events and Economic Burden Associated With Carotid Endarterectomy: A Health Economic Modelling Evaluation

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Current research reports that micro‐nanoplastics may increase the burden of cardiovascular disease with significant human and economic consequences. The detection of plastic particles in biological matrices is challenging and rigorous research is required to investigate the clinical and broader public health implications of microplastics.

Three years of ocular proton therapy in the Netherlands, clinical results

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Uveal melanoma (UM) is a rare cancer with rising number of diagnosis (143 diagnoses in 1990 to 226 in 2023) in the Netherlands. Most patients are treated locally with Ruthenium‐106 brachytherapy (±102/year). Patients were referred for proton therapy (PT) to Switzerland in the past, but PT is available in the Netherlands from January ...

Refining the timing of Middle Pleistocene (MIS 12 to MIS 6) ice advances into northern central Europe: sedimentological analysis and single‐grain luminescence dating of glaciotectonic complexes and tunnel‐valley fills

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
We summarize the current state of knowledge on the age of the Middle Pleistocene ice advances into northern central Europe and provide 25 new single‐grain feldspar luminescence ages of Elsterian and Saalian glacigenic sediments to constrain the age of the ice advances and their tentative correlation with marine isotope stages/substages.

Chironomid‐based summer temperature reconstruction of the Eemian–Weichselian transition at Lichtenberg, northern Germany

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Understanding the temperature variability of past interglacial cycles is essential to predict future climates. We present a new summer temperature reconstruction, based on the subfossil chironomid record from a small palaeolake adjacent to the Middle Palaeolithic site of Lichtenberg, northern Germany. The record spans from the Saalian late glacial over

Towards an ‘absolute’ timing of biostratigraphic and environmental phases from the Saalian late glacial to the Weichselian pleniglacial in central Europe—Insights from a lacustrine succession in Lichtenberg, northern Germany

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Palynological records are central to the biostratigraphic subdivision of the Late Pleistocene in central Europe. Yet many interglacial and interstadial phases—such as the Eemian, Brörup and Odderade—remain only poorly constrained in time due to limited numerical dating.
