Plant extracts in BPH.

In Italy plant extracts represent 8.6% of all pharmacological prescriptions for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (data from 1991). This review evaluates all the suggested mechanisms of action for plant extracts. Recently we demonstrated an antiestrogenic effect of Serenoa Repens in BPH patients.

De man leeft langer met als gevolg een veroudering van het urogenitale systeem, waaronder benigne prostaathyperplasie. Mictieklachten zijn sterk leeftijdgerelateerd en daarom worden op oudere leeftijd frequent problemen met de mictie gemeld: zwakke straal, vaker plassen en nachtelijk plassen.
