Brachionus plicatilis Muller 1786
2023Phylum Rotifera: Brachionus plicatilis SEM Diapausing embryos were ovoid and measured ca 134 µm in diameter (̄x = 134.0 ± 4.0 μm). The outer surface was composed of numerous smooth ridges and wrinkles, creating an overall rough surface (Figure 2a,b). TEM The shell consisted of a thick apical layer and a thin basal layer.

Most previous researches focused on the toxicity of polystyrene microplastics (MPs) to marine organisms, but less on polyethylene MPs and freshwater zooplanktons. The present study aims to elucidate the toxicity of polyethylene (PE) MPs (diameter = 10-22

Feeding biology of two brachionid rotifers: Brachionus quadridentatus and Brachionus plicatilis
Hydrobiologia, 1995Brachionus quadridentatus and Brachionus plicatilis were examined in laboratory cultures to investigate their (1) food requirements and (2) ability to select particles on the basis of size. Growth experiments showed that the Chlorophyceans Nannochloris sp. and Chlorella vulgaris possess good nutritional value for these rotifers.

Progress on the usage of the rotifer Brachionus plicatilis in marine ecotoxicology: A review.
Aquatic Toxicology, 2020The rotifer, Brachionus plicatilis, is a widely used model species in marine ecotoxicology for evaluating pollutions, toxins, and harmful algae.

Rapid adaptation of Brachionus angularis (Rotifera) to invasion by Brachionus calyciflorus
Hydrobiologia, 2019To test the hypothesis that Brachionus angularis can rapidly develop local adaptation to invasion by other monogonont rotifers, replicate populations of B. angularis were exposed to two environments invaded by B. calyciflorus at different inoculation densities and an environment free from invaders.

An analysis of mating behavior of three Brachionus plicatilis O.F. Muller and three Brachionus rotundiformis Tschugunoff strains showed that reproductive isolation exists between strains of these sibling species. An atypical B. rotundiformis strain appears to share some characteristics with both B. plicatilis and B. rotundiformis strains.

GABA, 5-HT and amino acids in the rotifers Brachionus plicatilis and Brachionus rotundiformis
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology, 2000gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) have been shown to increase the reproduction of the Brachionus plicatilis (NH3L strain). In the present study, the endogenous presence of GABA and 5-HT in the rotifers B. plicatilis (NH3L and Kamiura strains) and Brachionus rotundiformis (Langkawi strain) were confirmed by dot blot ...

Several abiotic factors influence the ecological responses of aquatic invertebrates to metal toxicity. We examined the effect of salinity (10, 20, and 30 psu) and temperature (25 and 32 °C) on acute and chronic arsenic (As) toxicity to the euryhaline ...
