Human Carcinogenesis and Bracken Fern: A Review of the Evidence
Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2002The complex taxon embraced in the Pteridium genus, popularly known as bracken fern and notorious weeds in many parts of the world, is one of the few vascular plants known to induce cancer naturally in animals. It has been known for long to be acutely toxic to livestock and sublethal chronic oral feeding of bracken fronds leads to cancerous lesions in ...

Insect Hormones: Alpha Ecdysone and 20-Hydroxyecdysone in Bracken Fern
Science, 1967The two major molting hormones of insects, alpha ecdysone and 20-hydroxyecdysone, were isolated in crystalline form from dry pinnae of the bracken fern, Pteridium aquilinum (L.) Kuhn. Three unidentified substances with molting hormone activity were also detected.

Determination of ptaquiloside in bracken fern (Pteridium esculentum)
Journal of Chromatography A, 1991Abstract A high-performance liquid chromatography method is described for the analysis of the potent carcinogen, ptaquiloside in bracken fern ( Pteridium esculentum ). The method involves aqueous extraction at room temperature followed by clean-up through a polyamide resin column.

THE INDUCTION OF APOGAMY IN THE BRACKEN FERN
Canadian Journal of Botany, 1960A new method of inducing apogamy in normal fern gametophytes of Pteridium aquilinum has been demonstrated. Entire plants, apparently isolated sporophytic members, and structures of an intermediate nature between sporophyte and gametophyte were produced.

Chemical ecology of bracken ferns
2018Ferns are among the oldest vascular plant lineages with origins dating back to the Devonian period. Bracken (Pteridium sp., Dennstaedtiaceae) is one of the most widespread and invasive fern species known to cause various ecological, economic and social concerns worldwide.
